Nats Lose Again, 8-1; More Cuts
The Nats picked up where they left off on Saturday and promptly dropped their sixth straight game, 8-1 to the Marlins.
Patrick Corbin pitched five full innings and was charged with four unearned runs on the second of two (2) errors by 1B Josh Bell. He gave up two singles in between a strikeout that should have been the third out before surrendering an Earl Weaver Special to fall behind, 4-0. He walked two and struck out six.
Mason Thompson was the first man out of the ‘pen and cordero’d around a leadoff walk and a two-out single before getting a popup to end the 6th inning.
Joan Adon came on in the 7th and finished the game on a sour note, as he was dinged for the remaining four runs on four hits (two HR), one walk, and a Victor Robles. He struck out three.
For the second straight game, only NRIs and OG’s came off the bench.
Tomorrow afternoon, the Nats make the long road trip to the visitor’s dugout and clubhouse to face their co-tenants, the Astros. The game can be heard on MLB Audio.
After the game, the Nats announced another round of cuts:

This team is going to be baaaaaddd.
And there’s not even any interesting prospects to watch beyond Ruiz…
As I’ve said before and will continue saying, this team isn’t going to win for another 5 years or more. Besides Luis Garcia, there’s absolutely nothing of note in the upper minors to make this awful line up better in the short term. We’re going to have to cross our fingers and hope Brady House and at least 3 of Infante/Lile/White/De la Rosa/Quintana/Cruz/Vaquero soar through the minors and arrive in DC at some point in 2024, so the club has a chance of fielding a competitive team in 2025-2026. But that’s exceptionally unlikely.
