Offseason Update: Jan. 4, 2022
Just a quick post to let you know we’re still here.
I’ve added a couple of pages to the “Road Trips” tab and have begun work on the Watchlist.
I don’t anticipate any transactions anytime soon; MiLB.com has been returning this for more than a month now.
We’re at the mercy of the MLB-MLBPA impasse and it seems fairly obvious that very little will change until either spring training starts or the strike is ended. My money is on spring training.
The next possible thing on my radar is MiLB posting its “Organizational All-Stars,” which will provide us something to laugh at discussion fodder, but that’s it.
We now return you to your early January loathing (pic above)…
Things sure are slow, but if we can get through a whole year without a season we can get past this easily.
Luke, this would be a good time to talk about your tech helpers.
Mets hire Luis Rivera to skipper Brooklyn
Luis was a DP partner to Junior boobs during their AAA stint @ Indy Indians in the 80s. Junior still with D backs ?
Luis probably had a moment of silence for Cal Burleson tooo
Junior Noboa
Oops
Typing error and no spell check , Luke
Brian Klein hit .275 for Florida Complex affiliate .
Nice component asset for Fred this summer .
Who else might rise to help out @ Fred or Willie ( Wilmington )?
Meanwhile Ray Kinsella stares out at the snow on his baseball field ..
What is the Adam Eaton connection in Anaheim
This is no dig on Lisson who has his strengths as an instructor and coach but there is always something about a catcher mentality leading the young charges – Jake Lowry
Sounds like something Rizzo might express…
Ricardo Mendez will be interesting to watch mature .
Eaton – esque ?
RIP , Cal Burleson !!
Hmmm , Mr Watson , Jamey Carroll left Pirates org ..
Good story on Mario Lisson, who this piece says is likely to manage at Wilmington in 2022:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/01/05/mario-lisson-manager-future/
That’s a promotion for him, but the top talent in the organization is going to be stacked at Fredericksburg, so it will be very interesting to see who they put there.
Michael Barrett was old buddies with Jamey Carroll so I’d bet he’d love to see Carroll return to some role in “ complex “ instructor team
FSComplex skipper ??
KW, when you think about it, the most important manager, pitching coach, etc. in the Nats sysem will be at Fredericksburg.
I read 8-10 years ago that the smartest teams had their best pitching coaches in Rookie and Low A ball as that was the most important part of the players development.
What is Joel Hanrahan going to do next ??
Could anyone give me a review of what Watson said in the Athletic 2 part interview
I’m not forking money over to Athletic on a scription
Ty
I think what he said wouldn’t be news to us, but probably would be to the MASN Commenters (and WaPo, too — here’s a gem from the T.J. White story: “High A is a big challenge for 19 year olds[sic]. That level is just a step from the big leagues”). Watson likes Dustin Saenz and Jackson Tetreault, thinks Geraldi Diaz can “really catch and throw” (I was unimpressed, but the usual caveat: I’m not seeing these guys dozens of times, night after night anymore), and compares Ricardo Méndez to Gregor Blanco. Otherwise, it’s the usual dodging of softball questions about the overhaul — “it’s a reboot,” which is kind of like the old Rodney Dangerfield joke “No, I don’t do cocaine; I just like the way it smells.”
Luke
That Gregor Blanco comp to Mendez seems spot on
Mendez Connell Rhinesmith Antuna Sens OF could be interesting to follow .
May take ahold to see the player development staff fleshed out as promised .
Like watching paint dry ..
