AFL Update: Oct. 24, 2021
Surprise broke out for crooked numbers three times in it first seven “ups” and held off a late charge by Peoria for a 10-6 win to close out the week.
Jackson Cluff (pictured) was the only Washington player to appear in the game. He batted eighth and played shortstop.
At the plate, the 24-y.o. went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. In the field, Cluff had a putout and an assist while taking part in a 3-6-3 double play.
With a loss by the Desert Dogs, the Saguaros returned to 1st place in the AFL West. Surprise remains home for an afternoon game tomorrow against Mesa.
Not sure if Cluff makes it but at least he’ll always have these terrific photos from Lee.
I missed doing this yesterday but an important note about the FredNats this year. Their attendance. With a capacity of about 5,100 the FredNats sold out 35 out of 55 home games. That’s impressive.
For contrast Hagerstown’s average attendance in 2019 was 709. A huge difference!
I was impressed with Coles. I wonder how they will apply that to the minor league teams. It seems communication and being on the same page is a big part of what Martinez wants. I hope that will go all the way through the organization.
Thank you for the shout out Mark.
