Details as to when/where the games missed will be made up have not been released. Roster moves: RHP Tanner Rainey optioned from Washington.

Harrisburg 8 Altoona 7
• M. Sanchez 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• A. Lee 3IP, 1H, R, ER, BB, 2K, HR
• McMahan (BS, 1) ⅔ IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, BB, 2K

• Cluff 2-5, R, 2B

The Senators blew a 6-3 lead in the 8th and held off the Curve in the 9th for an 8-7 win and split of the six-game series. Mario Sanchez came off the I.L. and struck out four over two innings while throwing 32 pitches, 21 for strikes. Andrew Lee tossed three innings of one-run relief. (The law firm of) Pearson McMahan lost the lead in the 8th with three straight two-out hits. Bryan Dobzanski got the last out in the 8th and the first of the 9th but also put on two baserunners. Carson Teel was brought on to finish up and muddled through, throwing a wild pitch to let in one runner and move the tying run into scoring position. After an intentional walk and whiff, Teel got the flyball out to seal the deal for his first save of 2021 and the second of his career. On offense, Cole Freeman and Nick Banks both went 4-for-5 and combined for three runs scored and two RBI as Harrisburg pounded out 13 hits, including five doubles (two by Freeman). Roster moves: RHP Mario Sanchez activated from the 7-Day I.L.

Hudson Valley 5 Wilmington 0 (6 inn.)
• A. Hernández (L, 2-3) 5IP, 6H, 4R, 4ER, BB, 6K, 2HR
• Antuna 1-2, 2B
• Arruda 1-2

Rain shortened this one to six innings as Hudson Valley shut out Wilmington, 5-0 on two hits. Alfonso Hernández gave up four runs on six hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out six while losing his third High-A game. Yasel Antuna doubled with one out in the 1st while Jake Arruda singled to lead off the 5th for the two Blue Rocks hits.

Fredericksburg 16 Delmarva 7
• C. Romero 1IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 1K, HR (ejected)

• Strohschein 2-5, R, 2B, HR, 3RBI
• Barley 1-3, 4R, HR, 3BB, 2RBI
• 10-for-18 RISP

Fredericksburg scored early and often as they roasted Delmarva pitchers for 18 hits in a 16-7 smackdown to take the series, 4-2. Carlos Romero lasted just one inning, giving up a homer and fanning one before the umpires ejected him after inspecting his glove before the top of the 2nd. Gilberto Chu came on and pitched three and 2/3rds innings, giving up a run on a home run and three hits total. He walked two and struck out one while notching his second “W.” Junior Martina got five hits and five RBI, including his third HR – one of seven on the night for the F-Nats.

FCL Nationals (10-14, 4th Place FCL East, 4½ GB)
The weather cooperated and the FCL Nats won three of eight games but remained in fourth place, albeit by just a game. Today and tomorrow, they’re in West Palm Beach. Wednesday is an off day. And they’ll trek to Jupiter on Thursday, Port St. Lucie on Friday, then back to Jupiter to close out the week.

DSL Nationals (8-6, 3rd place DSL South, 3GB)
The D-Nats won just once last week, though they were winning when play was halted on Saturday. It’s home and home against the D-Mets1 today and tomorrow, off on Wednesday, then two against the D-Cardinals Blue (da bee da ba da), and one against the D-Twins.

I’m puzzled as to why none of our 2021 draftees have been assigned yet. Have ANY draftees on any team been assigned yet?

Today should be transaction day as there needs to be a lot of movement as the new players are sprinkled through the system, especially the catchers.
Barley had a loud introduction at Fredericksburg with a homer, 3 walks and a stolen base.
Speaking of loud, Junior Martina is heating up just in time as he is old for Low A.

Kevin Strohschein hasn’t been great in Fredericksburg, but his line of .263/.302/.448 is decent enough to warrant a promotion to see what he can do against more age-appropriate pitching (he’s 24). Exact same story for Jacob Rhinesmith in Wilmington. He’s hitting a respectable .263/.352/.402, but he’s also 25. Though Justin Connell still has a stronger prospect sheen, and is more deserving (.295/.359/.394) than Rhinesmith.

The OF carousel need not go any further than Harrisburg, as Nick Banks and Rhett Wiseman’s sub-.300 OBPs and sub-.400 SLGs shouldn’t create much of an obstacle for regular playing time in the OF.

Interesting to see how the NCAA
    Guys are assigned .
Young , Boissenette snd the Big Aggie .
If the Big Aggie doesn’t launch the longest HR seen from a Nats
Farmhand in awhile then even Kline will be surprised .
All eyes on Grey tonight .
One wonders if Yadiel knows the big Cuban arm acquired from Oakland .
Somebody will have to report in to say if Barley is a big energy guy bouncing around all the time like Ozzie Smith did .

Many of us will tune into ESPN tonight to see if the network plays the Boz Scaggs song Jojo on the lead in … maybe the ball park audio will cue it up … pre game ..

Just spurring conversation as we launch into the reset …

Will Frizzell is indeed a Big Aggie — 6’5″, 225. He came out of nowhere to have a monster senior season in college’s best conference: .343/.451/.686, with 19 homers, 13 doubles, and an excellent 39/43 BB/K ratio. Those are some incredible numbers. Let’s hope they translate to pro ball. Frizzell seems pretty position-limited, but if he can rake, they’ll find a place for him to stand. (See Schwarber, Kyle)

“Fortunately” the Nationals are completely devoid of 1B anywhere in the franchise. If Frizzell performs, he won’t face any resistance.

Orioles release a BC alum Chris Shaw . 1b /LF
Why not add him to ROcH and see if Alu or Casey join him there soon ?

Yes re 1B, although I haven’t completely given up on Mendoza. They did him no favors by Rhineharting him, leaving him with a pretty discombobulating season.

Mendoza is just the latest college star who has struggled to replicate NCAA success as a pro, following in the footsteps of guys like Banks and Wiseman. Were they flawed college players (all struck out a lot in college), or are there player development issue in the system, or both?

Jo- Jo .. you know him … sing it , Boz…

With all the new players coming in, let’s not forget Jake ‘no respect’ Alu enters August hitting .878 OPS in Harrisburg.
