Nats Option Five More, Add Two to 40-Man
Former top prospects Carter Kieboom and Luis García were the highlights of a slew of moves that have essentially set the Opening Day Roster:
OPTIONED TO AAA
- LHP Sam Clay
- 2B Luis García
- OF Yadiel Hernandez
- 3B Carter Kieboom
- RHP Kyle McGowin
ADDED TO 40-MAN
- IF Jordy Mercer
- IF-OF Hernán Pérez
REASSIGNED TO MINOR-LEAGUE CAMP
- C’s – Welington Castillo, Blake Swihart
- UTs – Adrían Sanchez, Brandon Snyder
- OFs – Gerardo Parram Carlos Tocci
- RHPS – Aaron Barrett, Paolo Espino, Javy Guerra, Todd Peterson
RELEASED
- LHP TJ McFarland
- OF Yasmany Tomás
DESIGNATED FOR ASSIGNMENT
- IF Jake Noll
It’s something of a, um, minor surprise that the Nats—finally—acknowledged what even Stevie Wonder could see: Kieboom ain’t ready. This may actually be one of those rare cases where “the best 2[6] break camp.”
Obviously, there’s always the possibility that the Nats will lay claim to someone who gets DFA’d in the next few days. We’re also yet to see the Hellenic flu cas..er, which players will be placed on the 60-Day DL, which may include LHP Seth Romero (*gasp*)
Narrator: This is actually not a surprise.
We now return you to watching your brackets…
Kind of saw this coming when Starlin Castro got that start at third base earlier in the week. And obviously I’ve been bearish on Kieboom for a while now. But still…man.
Free Yadiel!
Yadiel needs an AL club opp
Seattle ?
Well Jake Noll over exceeded
Expectations in his career projectory in Nats system for sure .
Let’s see how many infielders get pressed down to Harrisburg .
Jake Noll and Dakota Bacus both cleared waivers so they’re presumably headed to alternate camp and will start the season in Rochester.
Jeff, I think Noll and Bacus both “over-exceeded.” They will always be “major-leaguers.” I’m glad both of them stayed in the system. As Mark has kept reminding us for years, Bacus has quietly been very good for quite a while. I think he may get more MLB time at some point, although McGowin, Ryne Harper, and perhaps Fuentes may be ahead of him in the RHP pecking order.
Yadiel did everything he could this spring, and then some. He’ll get more MLB time as well, just hopefully not due to injury. Frankly, he would have “beaten out” Stevenson if not for the need for a CF-capable reserve. Plus I still haven’t seen anything on the status of whether Stevenson has another option.
Luke, I think you just jinxed the team. By invoking the Hellenic Flu, I think you awakened the other virus gods. 1 player tested positive for COVID and 4 more out due to contact tracing. Looks like we may see Yadiel, Kieboom or Garcia sooner than we expected…
But I had them in my thoughts and prayers?!
