Catching Up on Transactions
Lost in the excitement last week was another transaction post from Baseball America, albeit overlapping with its previous post (12/15/20-1/29/21 vs. 1/1/21-2/1/21).
Sifting through the repeats, the following new signees emerged:
- C Blake Swihart
- SS Humberto Arteaga
- OF Alec Keller
- OF Hernán Pérez
Swihart, 28, is old news, as most offseason signings of notable major-leaguers are.
Keller, 28, who was part of the 2020 Memorial Day Massacre, returns to the organization that drafted him in 2014 (17th Rd., Princeton).
Arteaga, 27, is a former Kansas City IFA who played 41 games for the Royals in 2019 and was in their alternate training site in 2020.
Pérez, 29, has played in parts of nine seasons for the Tigers, Brewers, and Cubs. He posted a line of .402/.500/.627 in the 20-21 VWL, though it should be noted that winter-league pitching is notoriously uneven with has-beens, never-weres, and maybe-somedays filling out the staffs.
Luke, you’re going to get cramps from all these postings. 🙂
Strike while the iron is hot… It’ll slow down again (it always does).
Good to see the ketchup
Bottles , Luke .
Safe to say there will be guys crunched down a level with the glut of numbers even if some are on contracts with “ contingencies “ ( to borrow a real estate term )
Antuna and García we shall see where they land
Melvin Duarte could be a help to Harrisburg with his IF/OF history
Plus Jake Noll might see Frontier Field lockerroom .
So much uncertainty for all the guys who were in hiatus in 2020.
Well, limited spring televised games notwithstanding, I’m looking forward to seeing some of our shortlist guys maybe as soon as Sunday…
