Mets Edge Nats, 2-1
With the Mets offense notching single runs in the 2nd and 4th innings, New York’s pitchers made it stand up for a 2-1 win over Washington yesterday afternoon.
Wil Crowe made the start and gave up leadoff hits in both innings he pitched – a double in the 1st and a solo HR in the 2nd – to take the loss. He gave up two hits total and struck out one but did not issue a walk.
Fellow watchlister Ben Braymer was the first man out of the ‘pen, but was no more effective. He gave up the second Mets run on three hits over an inning and 2/3rds with no walks and one whiff.
Former watchlister Andrew Stevenson broke up the shutout with a one-out, ground-rule double in the 6th to plate Emilio Bonifácio, who had led off the inning with a triple.
Drew Ward and Jake Noll both started, at 1B and 2B, respectively and both went 0-for-2 with three strikeouts combined (two for Ward).
Other notable minor-leaguers to appear in the game were:
- Taylor Gushue pinch-hit for the DH Trea Turner and was 0-for-2 with a K
- Raudy Read spelled Yan Gomes at catcher and was also 0-for-2
- Luis Garcia subbed for Adrían Sanchez at shortstop and grounded out in his only PA
- Yadiel Hernandez followed Mac Williamson in LF and grounded into a DP to end the 7th
The full squad heads to Jupiter this afternoon to visit the St. Louis Cardinals. Aníbal Sánchez is expected to make his spring debut. The game can be seen on MLB.tv and heard on MLB Audio (away feed on both).
Nice front row seat view. Thanks. !!!
Luke I am keeping track of the adjectives you are using on Read this spring. Lol.
I’m amazed that former Nat, Emilio Bonifacio, is still playing baseball! And in a Nats jersey.
He’s not looking all that bad and the fact he can play so many positions plays in with the Nat’s current strategy.
