The 2019 season ended with a thud for the Harrisburg Senators as they fell 12-5 in Game Four to lose the Eastern League Western Division Championship Series, 3-1 to the Bowie BaySox.
Carson Teel was welcomed to AA with a leadoff HR in both the 1st and 2nd innings and gave up three longballs overall as he was charged with seven runs on ten hits over five innings. He walked one and stuck out one as the losing pitcher.
Jhonatan German was called upon as the most-rested member of a Sens ‘pen that had pitched 15 innings over the previous three games. Like Wednesday, he was good for one inning and horrible for the other as Bowie knifed him for five runs on seven hits total over his two frames to turn a 7-1 hole into a 12-1 crevasse. Andrew Istler and Greg Holland both put up a zero on the ‘board and combined for five K’s to close it out.
Harrisburg got two back in the 7th and 8th innings to delay the inevitable but went in order in the 9th. Ian Sagdal and Tres Barrera both homered while Sagdal, Dante Bichette, and Cole Freeman each had two hits in the Sens’ 10-hit, three-walk offense.
Bowie advances to the Eastern League Finals for the first time since 2015, when it won its one and only E.L. title. They’ll be opposed by Trenton, who beat Reading 3-0 in the EDCS to make it back to the Finals for the fourth time since 2013, when they swept Harrisburg.
Congrats to the Senators for the postseason appearance. Too bad that a good number of the players who got them there weren’t still around for the playoffs. (But it was tear-inducing to see Barrett on his successful MLB return on the same night.)
Teel obviously wasn’t ready for AA prime time, although there’s no reason to judge him or his future based on this one performance. I did think it was curious that Teel got this assignment over Cate, though. Considering how Teel and Sanchez got clobbered, Andrew Lee’s start in the series looks even more remarkable.
Congrats to the inverted AAA/AA affiliation paradigm where many success stories sprouted. Maybe Barrett should have gone up earlier so the German closing Burg bullpen could gain more innings.
German , Guillen , Howard Bartow , Cronin should fall into some funky future bullpen blend …
7 months until we see the AAa/AA mixes rolled out after WPB March
Luke take a well earned dog days holiday from the editorial duties
Group question : win lose or draw. Grade the bullpen re invention with trades , promotions , demotions ..
Daniel Hernandez was kidnapped by the CIA and placed in WP??
Bizarre. .255 BA in 2018.
2019 lost season
Luke – take a long monk- ish sabbatical with the dogs. Some of us guys can post whimsical comments between post World Series and the kid in the candy store Winter Meetings.
Rizzo has some raised values in the farm so maybe he will tweak the org in some minor fashion .
One of my rituals this summer has been drinking my coffee out of a corbinfuel.com mug every morning Patrick is set to start….
9/14. Trea Turner leading off Friday the 13 th would have had a HR in temps in the 90s plus index. Wow. That ball just died … let’s hope speed doesn’t sleep from now on..
Well count the blessings. At least Nats are not snake bit like Halos out west
Luke. If we compared the elbow injury which shifted Gregg Colbrunn to 1 b / DH to Spencer’s , then how could we compare ?
Aside from the fact that Harrisburg got a lot of bad starting pitching this series, it was never a fair fight.
A lot of the best players get called up and they play against a team where no one was called up. Big difference and it showed.
Congrats to everyone who played for them this season, made for a fun year.
Obviously a rough debut for Teel, but I really like that he was able to buckle down after getting pounded in the first two innings and pitch three more while limiting the damage. It wasn’t a successful outing, but he could have completely and totally melted down, and he didn’t.
Congrats to Trea Barera for unexpectedly getting the callup in the wake of injuries to Suzuki and Kieboom. Looks like Zook isn’t seriously hurt, which is a big relief for a team that lost Wilson Ramos days before the 2016 NLDS, but for Kieboom it sucks that he did what the organization wanted him to do–served as a backup in Harrisburg to mentor Barera–and now he loses a month of MLB service time. I hope the Nats are looking to make him into coach when he’s done playing for good.
S. Kieboom and Read are out of options. Barrera and Gushue (or Reetz) will be the guys on the shuttle for the next few years. I would guess that Kieboom would “survive” a DFA and stay with the organization. Read likely would be picked up and probably will have to be traded sooner or later.
Agree completely with KK on Kieboom. A lot of pitchers said they learned more from him than any other player in their career.
The worst timed injury ever.
Spencer for hire. GCL skipper in future ??
Do agree KK
Don’t know how accurate it is, but according to Roster Resource it looks like Spencer should have one more option left after this year.

Kieboom is cut
