Reno 7 Fresno 5
• Copeland 5IP, 4H, 2R, ER, BB, 3K, HR
• Dragmire (L, 0-1) 1⅔ IP, 5H, 5R, 4ER, 0BB, 0K, 2HR

The Aces clubbed three homers as they outslugged the Grizzlies, 7-5. Scott Copeland went first five innings and allowed two runs on four hits (one HR) and a walk. Brady Dragmire turned a 2-1 deficit and a 4-4 tie into the loss as Reno got to him for two homers and five runs total over just an inning and a third. Brandon Snyder drove in three with a single and a homer while Alec Keller singled twice to lead the Fresno offense.
Harrisburg vs. Bowie – PPD
The rains claimed their first gate of the season for Harrisburg. They’ll try for makeup with a twinbill tonight.
Potomac vs. Fayetteville – PPD
Likewise in Woodbridge, where STHs were shocked pleasantly surprised by the decision to postpone made hours (not minutes) before first pitch.
Greensboro 6 Hagerstown 0
• Cate (L, 0-1) 4⅔ IP, 3H, 4R, 0ER, BB, 7K, WP
• Tapani 3⅓ IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 4K, HR, WP, 2-2 IR-S
• Harrison 1-3
• Marinconz 1-3
Three Greensboro pitchers combined on a three-hit, 6-0 shutout of Hagerstown. Tim Cate struck out seven in four and 2/3rds with two of the Suns’ four errors rendering his four runs allowed unearned, but he was the losing pitcher nevertheless. Ryan Tapani let in both inherited runners and two of his own while finishing the game. Kyle Marinconz, KJ Harrison, and Gage Canning each singled once while Israel Pineda (one) and Jose Sanchez (two) tried to offset their error(s) by drawing a walk. Gilbert Lara, who committed the fourth error, went 0-for-3.
I see that Kieboom is still playing SS, which I hope means they’ll bring him up to replace Difo as Trea’s replacement sooner or later, but we’ll see.
Looks like a good outing from Scott Copeland, who was excellent in the spring. If he were to get brought up at some point, my guess would be that it would be as a multi-inning reliever, not a starter.
I guess that was a good outing by Cate? He only gave up three hits and one walk while striking out seven. But he apparently struggled to do enough to overcome the errors. As a 2d-round pick, he’s one you would hope can move up quickly.
Speaking of legacy kids. Tapani pitched last night .
Meanwhile in the Baylor / UT Horns face off. Shane Reynolds kid plays 3 b for family Alma mater and Elton John bassist Bissoette s son plays infield for Baylor Bears
He should have been out of the inning twice and his pitch count was elevated. Back-to-back errors with two outs brought in runs, and he couldn’t put away the last batter he faced and eventually walked him on his 80-somethingth pitch of the game, as I recall.
I think it was a very good outing for Cate and his infielders let him down.
Maybe the Brewers allowed Lara to jettison away from them because of his glove.
A few scouts should be in Bowie stands to look over the four starters set to toe the DH
I see no Chisholm on GCL or auburn scrolls
Despite the loss, Cate actually provided the first truly good pitching prospect news this season. Meanwhile, Pineda has looked overwhelmed by the quick promotion to full season ball. It’s a tad harder to be a good catcher at such a young age than it is to be an outfielder or even a shortstop.
All eyes on Irwin tonight
No April Fools joke. Johnny DiP- inks a Dingo kid. Sebastian Oliverio. 6’2″ RHP.
Major storm passing through Texas today. Major
Pedro Severino disproved that theory when he strapped on the tools of ignorance at youthful age in cold HAGS
Yes, that’s good news on Cate. One of the things I always look for with these guys is K/BB.
7 K’s and 1 walk is very good indeed.
Anytime I see a PPD I think about in the film Bull Durham where Crash and the guys drink beer, turn on the water sprinklers and play in the mud.
Grissom , are you curious about many of the outcomes of the guys parked on Paper in auburn especially Jonathan RL Pryor
??
If anybody hasn’t seen the best college arm behind HP in NCAA. Watch the Baylor Bears
