Transaction Update

February 19, 2019

While we await the unveiling MLB Pipeline’s Top 20’s for the N.L. East today, and perhaps break up the monotony of the Top 100 lists – hmmm, I wonder if Robles, Kieboom, and Garcia will be on this one? – we have news of two more MLFA signings:

• RHP Logan Ondrusek
• UT Myles Schroeder

Ondrusek did not pitch in 2017 and spent 2018 going from AA to AAA before he was released by the Dodgers after going 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA across 22 IP. He was picked up by the L.I. Ducks and threw 21⅓ IP with an ERA of 1.27. The 34-y.o. Texan won 21 games in relief across parts of six seasons with Cincinnati (2010-14) and Baltimore (2016), pitching 2015 in Japan (5-2 in 72G, 70⅓ IP).

Schroeder is a former Giants farmhand who has played all nine positions, but mostly at 3B and OF. He was drafted as P-CF in 2007 out of Diablo Valley (CA) JuCo but retired for three seasons before resuming his career in 2011. The switch-hitting 31-y.o. posted a .699 OPS in AAA last summer, his first full season at the level.

MLB Pipeline Releases its 2019 Top 30 for Washington

Brief initial reactions to the new MLB Pipeline list:

    – Huge jump for Israel Pineda to #8. Big fall for Seth Romero to #15. Neither are surprises.
    – Surprised by the top-fifteen placements for relatively unheralded Jeremy de la Rosa and Malvin Peña. Bit of pressure on them to perform in 2019.
    – My puzzlement over the disparate views of Sterling Sharp intensifies. Mayo/Callis love him, pointing to an elite groundball rate and solid command. McInturff doesn’t see much more than org filler, pointing to low velo and poor secondary offerings. Mayo/Callis peg his heater in the low 90s. McInturff says it tops out at 90. Mayo/Callis like his slider a lot. McInturff doesn’t see it as a credible offering at the highest levels. Somebody is wrong here.
    – As always, not sure what to make of the reliever evaluations. Austin L. Adams and Tanner Rainey were practically clones last year, yet Rainey ranks and Adams never has. Andrew Istler isn’t ranked. Jhon Romero isn’t ranked. Aaron Fletcher isn’t ranked. Yet the likes of Joan Adon and Kyle Johnston are? It’s confusing.
    – Gage Canning looks uncannily like Daniel Johnson 2.0 from here, right down to the draft position and geographic region. Easy to see him having a good year and being a trade chip in July or next winter.

As Nats GM points out. Some people get good looks on their outings while others may see not a sterling outing …

Peanuts night at what ever affiliate Schroeder lands on. Myles could cause Reynolds and Wilson to play more OF in F – troop??

Christopher DeLaCruz. Jeremy ” unspoken Pearl Jam ” DeLaCruz. And there is a pitcher by that last name in chain ??
Does Christopher have appealing barrel action ??
