Catching Up on Transactions
While I hope this will pick up soon, let’s take a look at the players that have come and gone (officially at least) since January 18:
SIGNED
• SS Luis Sardinas
RE-SIGNED
• RHP Brady Dragmire
RETIRED
• LHP Josh Edgin
Sardinas joins Scott Copeland as the only two players who weren’t with the organization in 2018, according to Baseball America’s Matt Eddy’s six (6) reports on transactions since the 2018-19 minor-league free agency began on Nov. 2nd. Previous re-signs include Adderling Ruiz, Aaron Barrett, Bengie Gonzalez, Khayyan Norfork, Jake Lowery, and Hunter Jones.
Edgin put up some interesting numbers last year. Best wishes to him as he starts the next chapter.
On balance, this offseason has really dragged since mid-December or so. Rizzo did most of his shopping early, and he seems content to either wait out the market or get a look at his internal options before he finishes the job.
I noticed AJ Cole was a DFA by the Indians as a part of their trade with the Marlins. I’m wondering if Washington would pick him up on a minor league deal for AAA with an invitation to our major league camp to compete for the 5th spot.
I suspect not … but its a nice thought … perhaps too many bad feelings on both sides?
Hope, at 31, Aaron Barrett can make it all of the way back. He last pitched in an MLB game on August 5, 2015. His brief stint in 2018 showed promise.
I thought Norfolk was transitioning to coaching, maybe this is procedural
On the catching front, Adderling was on the disabled list for all odd last year and Lowery had 78 AB’s last year.
If you can catch, there seems to be someone who needs you at some level.
Adderling has been a coach for a few seasons now — they’ve just kept him on the roster as an emergency option.
Luke we know Rizzo and his fondness of the catcher trade
I prefer Hunts over Heinz Luke
I have to chuckle about signing Sardinas with allthe players to pass through Hickory for Texas….
Considering the attention this winter to 40 man depth additions , I must say the minor league additions and retensions are rather Dollar General.
Hellickson reunion won’t ea surprise

Tapani All Sally League Star in 2019
True!! I wonder if the whole Harper melodrama is even affecting Rizzo and other GM’s attempts to fill the upper minors with reclamation potential fill in projects?
They already have three in Sammy Solis, Austin L. Adams, and Henderson Alvarez. But the OF stock looks very, very sparse after Stevenson and I fear MAT will have to be dealt? If not for TJ perhaps the young bat of Antuna could have leapt into the outfield picture?
Good point about Antuna when Marinconz, Daily , Hernandez sit lower in depth
