Norfolk 2 Syracuse 1 – GAME ONE
• Voth (L, 4-7) 6⅓ IP, 3H, 2R, 2ER, 3BB, 4K
• Cordero (BS, 2) ⅓ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 0K, 2-2 IR-S
• Ward 1-3, R, 2B, 2K
• Marmolejos 0-3

Syracuse 8 Norfolk 1 – GAME TWO
• Torres 3IP, 2H, R, ER, 0BB, 2K
• Glover 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Ward 1-2, R, 2BB
• Marmolejos 0-3, RBI

Harrisburg 8 Portland 7 (10 inn.)
• Sharp 5⅓, 8H, 3R, 3ER, 0BB, 7K, HR, HBP, WP
• Mendez (W, 5-3) 1⅓ IP, 3H, 3R, 2ER, 0BB, 2K, 2HR
• R. Pena (SV, 3) ⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Keller 3-5, R, 2B
• Kieboom 2-5, 2B, RBI
• Gushue 2-5, 2B, RBI

The Senators broke out of their offensive funk with a three-run rally in the 9th and a four-run salvo in the top of the 10th, then held off the Sea Dogs’ answer in the bottom of the 10 for an 8-7 win. Sterling Sharp pitched into the 6th and gave up the first three Portland runs on eight hits, including a HR, but walked none and struck out seven. The win went to Roman Mendez despite coughing up two homers in the 10th and three runs total over an inning and a 1/3rd. Ronald Pena picked up his third save as he retired two of three batters faced to close out the game. Alec Keller led the way with two singles and a double, followed by Carter Kieboom and Taylor Gushue, who both went-2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. If you missed it above, or in the comments yesterday, today and tomorrow’s games against the Baysox have been cancelled due to flooding on City Isle.

Potomac vs. Buies Creek – PPD
Wednesday’s game between Potomac and Buies Creek was also rained out, setting up a doubleheader today and cancelling the third game of the series because the two teams do not meet again in the regular season. It’s worth noting that this may potentially affect the C.L. South divisional race, as the Astros and the Dash are separated by a half game and tied in the loss column.

Hagerstown vs. Delmarva – PPD
It’s likewise in Western Maryland, where the Suns and Shorebirds have been sidelined since Monday waiting for the rain to abate or a large wooden boat to show up. They’ll shoot for two this afternoon and – believe it or not – they’ll have to cancel two games because this is the last time the two teams play in 2018. This will also potentially affect the Sally Lg. playoffs, too, as Lakewood has not missed a game this week and could repeat its first-half feat of winning the division by virtue of playing two more games.

Auburn vs. Tri-City – PPD
The rain also claimed the game between Auburn and Tri-City, setting up a doubleheader on getaway day and negating the point of the 11 a.m. start.

GCL Mets 11 GCL Nationals 10
• P. Gonzalez (L, 0-1) 1⅔ IP, 11H, 9R, 9ER, 0BB, 2K, 2HR
• A. Hernandez 2⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K, 1-0 IR-S
• Wilson 2-2, R, BB, RBI
• Morales 2-4, 2R, 2-2B, RBI

Pedro Gonzalez dug a 9-1 hole for the G-Nats after two in his stateside debut, which they nearly climbed out of, but fell to the G-Mets, 11-10. Gonzalez was defenestrated for nine runs on 11 hits over an inning and a 2/3rds for the loss. Four relievers combined for seven and a 1/3 innings of two-run relief on four hits and no walks. Jesus Morales doubled twice and scored twice while Jacob Wilson singled twice, walked once, and scored once to lead the G-Nats offense. Roster moves: RHP Pedro Gonzalez reassigned from the DSL; RHP Fausto Seguro on 60-Day DL; OF Jacob Wilson assigned from Syracuse for MiLB rehab; LHP assigned from Potomac for MiLB rehab.

What a stateside welcome to Gonzalez.

He gave up three more runs in 1.2 IP than he did in his previous 37 innings in the DSL!

      We like Pedro.
Nats nation. Any further thoughts on
Re tooling with selling off bullpen arms for assets for other roster needs
Or just upper farm depth pieces ??

WaPo reports Stras to DL, Milone called up

Shocker. This probably ensures Strasburg will stay a Nat after next year, as it seems doubtful he’d opt out of his contract with so much money on the table and other teams unlikely to offer him a long term deal.

Ironically, Milone might be a better pitcher than Gio at this point.

McGowin pitching for Syracuse today vice Harrisburg since Milone went up and Senators game flooded out.

Tommy M has pitched well lately for Cuse.

He was terrible in 2016 and 2017, but Milone was a solid MLB starter from 2012 to 2015, including a very good post-season (ALDS) start against Detroit. Think he will be a significant upgrade over Voth, Rodriguez and Fedde.

I just read that Marmalade was DFA’ef to make room on the 40-man roster.

Ward plays more 1b for Knorr??
            Or could Gamache move up?

I’ll bet he goes unclaimed. Several on the 40-man may be feeling uneasy right now, like Matt Reynolds, Sanchez, Voth, maybe even Stevenson and his .195. Glover will need a 40-man spot, as will anyone the Nats might acquire in a trade before Tuesday (if they’re “buying”).

Sam Held possibly getting stretched out to see if he can start.

    Great photo!
Let’s give the kid Gonzales some room here. This is a major, major adjustment for him. New country, new language, etc.
The 1 thing that’s the same is they play in the daytime under a blazing hot sun.

Indeed Mark. Much like young Pedro Severino catching in Hagerstown in April with the thin blood and cold night games

Why no prospect love for Alec Keller? The guy always seems to be able to hit.

    1. Pilchard says:

Rendon going on paternity leave. Not sure if this means that Sanchez gets called up, but since Reynolds (and Difo) can play 3rd guessing they call up Suero or Gott.

New Midseason MLB Pipeline top 30 for the Nats.
Biggest jump is Sharp from who? to #14.
    Drew Ward drops to #30.

I am getting ready for a sell off.
Three relievers could bring how many kids
