Rosters Revealed for the “A” Teams & Harrisburg
Late yesterday afternoon, the releases came trickling in as the Suns, P-Nats, and Senators officially released their Opening Day rosters.
Juan Soto, Yasel Antuna, and Luis Garcia highlight the 2018 Hagerstown squad. Also notable: 4th Round Pick Cole Freeman has emerged from witness protection. The rest of the watchlist players to make the team:
• RHPs Tomas Alastre, A.J. Bogucki, Brigham Hill, Jackson Tetrault
• LHPs Ben Braymer, Nick Raquet, Jackson Stoeckinger, Alex Troop
• IFs Aldrem Corredor, Anderson Franco
Carter Kieboom, Wil Crowe, and Blake Perkins are the New Kids on the Block in Woodbridge (but prolly don’t sing and dance that well) while Jakson Reetz returns from last summer. As is typical, there are a LOT of returnees from years past (19). Other watchlisters to make the team:
• RHPs Joan Baez, Sterling Sharp, Gabe Klobosits
• LHPs Grant Borne, Hayden Howard
• C – Tres Barrera
• IFs Austin Davidson, Edwin Lora, Jake Noll
• OF – Telmito Agustin
Daniel Johnson, Kelvin Gutierrez, and Jefry Rodriguez make the jump from A+ to AA to join Taylor Gushue, who was called up late last summer. Like the P-Nats, the Sens feature 15 players who’ve been there before. Watchlist players include:
• RHP – Phillips Valdez
• IFs – Osvaldo Abreu, Drew Ward
• OF – Rafael Bautista
No doubt because the Chiefs don’t start up until tomorrow—and someone could get hurt tonight in DC—Syracuse’s roster release will not be until today. But we already know that it’ll include Erick Fedde, Jose “Orange” Marmolejos, Victor Robles, and Andrew Stevenson. The primary drama will be if the team can avoid becoming the Washington Generals for a third straight season.
Luke some of those guys may shoot hoops better than baseball
Curious to see Springfield fans XST list
With Soto and Garcia on the roster, the Suns are likely to see this fan for some games.
Should Masters, Davidson, and Sagdal just go ahead a buy a house together in Woodbridge? They may stay there long enough to have their numbers retired. I feel bad for Davidson in particular, as he’s a significantly better hitter than the guys ahead of him at Harrisburg, Norfolk and Perez.
Daniel Johnson gets the aggressive push on to Harrisburg after not much time at Potomac. This is a guy who wasn’t even a full-time starter at Hags when the 2017 season began. Let’s hope the power stays with him as he moves northward.
I don’t hold great hope for the mysterious Cole Freeman becoming a major prospect, but let’s hope a senior signee from one of the top college programs will share some of that polish and competitiveness with Garcia, Antuna, and Franco. It’s interesting that they list Garcia at 2B and Antuna at SS even though Antuna struggled defensively last year, and several of the reports said he would probably have to move off of SS.
And here’s hoping we’ll be seeing Soto in Potomac sooner rather than later.
Was there ever any report of what happened to Mapes last season? I see they have moved both him and Bryan Harper down one level as they rehab. No sign of fellow wounded wings Nick Lee, Andrew Lee, or Ryan Williamson.
Mapes had a lat injury.
Seth Romero still banished to home detention?
