I resisted the urge to include a W.T.F. category, but I’m sure folks will supply their own. Now for some thoughts…
• That Hagerstown roster is something, isn’t it? Fortunately, I still have my spy out there—we just had a chat last weekend—so we should have some first-hand opinions and observations before these guys make their way to Woodbridge.
• Seriously, I think just about everyone we’d been hoping to make it there instead of Auburn did.
• You could complain about the composition of the Potomac roster, but this really par for the course — all eyes will be on Robles, perhaps Baez, but I’m looking forward to seeing Agustin, who has been Robles’s shadow for most of his time in the organization.
• Harrisburg is a lot like Potomac, but with a couple of more prospects, much older veterans, mixed in with some OG’s and a few social promotions.
• And Syracuse? Well, it’s the highest level and easily the oldest this year. It’s built to supply fungible replacements and stopgaps.
• Finally, my first post for MASN is scheduled for Wednesday. when it’s online, I’ll link to it here.
To quote KW, “we knew you when” mr MASN guy.
If you can’t get excited about the Hagerstown roster, maybe your pulse is ultra-low.
Luke brought up a good point about Agustin; he has been Robles-lite for 2 years now. The next step is always how you guage these guys.
The Tylew Watson watch is now on!
I like the four lefties on Potnats
Depth , Gilabeau might be a
Surprise push
XST truly a mix of injuries and some
Guys working on stuff
Luke good luck with the new gig .
MASN doesn’t allow dog photos
Though
June draft will truly include a lefty or switch hitting NCAA utiliy IF for hags .
Dulin resigned to auburn ?
He was on the last released list.
Auburn not updated
Well, I wouldn’t call it a new gig — it’s an unpaid guest spot, except for publicity, which only pays off indirectly via advertising. My goal there has always been to make enough to pay for the hosting; I’d hate to have to install a donation button or anything like that.
What I saw was a chance to expand my footprint a little and educate some of the masses about the minors. Today’s post won’t be all that invigorating for the regulars here, but it should inform more of the casual fans.
Manny Burriss isn’t in the Cuse roster because he received a 50 game suspension for testing positive for a “drug of abuse.
A good reminder why some of the farm hands deserve multiple chances:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/nationals-journal/wp/2017/04/04/the-nationals-unearthed-gem-tanner-roark-by-betting-on-a-man-whod-had-a-21-41-era/
Roark also had that 7-18 season at Syracuse in 2012, with a 4.26 ERA. He went 7-1 in the majors the next year.
The Nats have signed Aaron Barrett to a minor-league deal. Great news for him that he’s made enough progress to warrant signing. The Nats are pretty flush with RH relief arms, though, both in the majors and in the upper minors after adding guys like Cordero, Adams, and Gott over the last couple of years, not to mention the rise of Glover.
Speaking of Cordero, I was surprised that he didn’t get much of a look in the spring, and that he got sent to Harrisburg. I guess they’re still thinking of him as more of a “prospect” at age 25. The “prospects” seem to be more at Harrisburg, with the “depth” at Syracuse.
Wonder how it will work with both Neuse and Franco at the same level?
Remember, I Don’t Know is on third! But no, the situation doesn’t seem optimal for two highly regarded prospects to get regular playing time at the same position.
Could be Franco spends a lot of time at 1B as Corredor is two years older and has yet to show much power. Before he got hurt, Franco was demonstrating some decent pop for such a young prospect.
Franco learns 1b
Notice how Carter Kieboom jumped over three Infielders drafted last June ??
Luke’s first post is up, folks! Well done, Luke.
If folks are just finding this site thanks to Luke’s MASN column, welcome! Here’s a point I wanted to make anyway, but it would be good for the larger audiences to see: dollar Mondays are back yet again at Potomac! Yes, general admission for $1 per person for all the home Monday games, sponsored by the Washington Post, as it has been for several years. (Plus $5 for parking.) The general admission seats are bleacher seats with no backs, but the views aren’t bad at all. Get out to Woodbridge in April or May, before Victor Robles gets promoted.
Hagerstown looks like a fun squad this year. Lots of interesting guys. Might have to take a trip up there
