Nats Trade Rosenbaum For Butler

January 14, 2015

So Long
Today the Nationals announced the trade of LHP Danny Rosenbaum for AAA veteran Dan Butler, as part of an offseason push to replenish the upper minors with catchers.

Rosenbaum was a 2009 pick out of Xavier University who quickly established himself as a workhorse, throwing 140+ innings in his first three full seasons (2011-2013). That also earned him a Rule 5 look-see during the 2012-13 offseason before developing Nationals elbow last spring. He was expected to spend 2015 rehabbing in the GCL and perhaps Auburn before becoming a six-year free agent.

As noted in the link above, Roberts is one of several minor-league veteran catchers (Steven Lerud, Omir Santos) added in the wake of the departures of 40-man backstop Jhonatan Solano as well as AA/AAA reserves Brian Jeroloman and Mitch Canham.

You would think a trade between clippard and y
Escobar would include another body from Oakland ?

This Selig deal with Angelos stinks. A better MASN deal seals deal with Desmond
I could care less about Escobar and his ten cent head or the kid from SD- Nat turner.
Desmond is classy guy for club long term. But that’s bud Selig effect on nats in DC !

Jeff, yes MASN deal is part of it, but the other part of it is Selig’s a lousy, greedy commissioner and the Lerners are risk-averse. They could spend as if they’ve beaten Angelos and assume that they are going to win a lawsuit against Angelos. Or they could be the conservative family that wanted to make sure every rock in Nationals Park was perfect. Lerners are conservative real estate folks who don’t really want to spend their way to a championship. They want to run the team as both a winner and a business. On the whole, I support the Lerners now that I’ve empowered Rizzo and I’m not so sure Desmond will age well, homegrown stud that he’s been the last couple of years. I found it real interesting that he radically dialed down his twitter recently. I feel that it’s almost like he’s trying to get tough and get his cash like Zimmermann. True Nationals need to have endured the tough times like Ryan Zimmerman or signed up for hometown discounts like Gio because they love it hear. This market is supposed to be able entice hometown discounts because of the potential branding perks. We can’t do that because we’re not New York and our fan base ain’t so bright. We were all chanting “Sign Adam Dunn” and Rizzo was saying “I know what that dude’s worth!” Rizzo was right. He’s been right on most calls and I applaud him for trading for some Desmond insurance. I feel that this movie plays out with Desmond leaving and Zimmermann leaving, hopefully after this window of the team gets that ring. Flags fly forever and I need no dynasty, personally, just one parade and a perennial competitor for division titles. I’d love to say that the Nats have more Championships during the time that they’ve been in DC than the Braves and Mets especially. Would sure shut up that Chop. Getting increasingly tempted to pull for the Bombers in the AL East, though. I don’t want to see Angelos make a dime more of money and I’d love for Camden yards to get empty without the Nelson Cruz Boomstick.
