AFL Begins Play

The weekly posting plan still remains, but with a little time to spare — and some great pics to share — I’d figure I’d do a quick post to give folks a taste of fall ball while you await the outcome of the NLDS.

The Solar Sox were eclipsed by the Desert Dogs by a score of 9-3 this afternoon. As you can see, Felipe Rivero got the start but remained in 2014 Harrisburg form with four runs allowed on seven hits and two walks. He struck out three and gave up a solo home run.

Tony Renda and Pedro Severino both started on offense, but went 0-for-3 with a walk and 0-for-2 respectively.

Matt Grace and Derek Self both appeared in relief and both struggled, with Grace giving up two runs in one inning and Self giving up a HR in two innings of work.

See you on Sunday with a summary of the week’s happenings in the minors (and some more pics, no doubt).

No, that’s all Lee’s photography — all I do is label, crop, resize, and/or caption.

The insult of the Nationals demise is coupled with the injury of a lack of highly regarded upper minors prospects for the AFL. Who should we really be looking at for AFL success? On the other hand, all those Syracuse guys likely will have to consider Winter Ball to stay sharp and stay attractive for MLB Spring Training consideration. Caps and Wizards have an opportunity to earn some of my offseason dollars, but I’d prefer to hit the lottery and travel to Winter Ball Playoffs on vacation! A[ustralia! Caribbean! Mexico! We call these the dreams that fuel the business, or plans for my retirement in 2044 or so. Yikes! That’s a long way away. Dare to dream!

Dream dream : cue supertramp or Aerosmith
    Dreamer and dream on. SoulD!
What pulled me out of the depths of
Severe downers after the last out was thinking
Of G force coming on hard to city isle and beyond
Not to mention the stable of bullpen arms
Which should include Cole and Voth .
Does anybody believe in Jake Johanson
Finding the faith in his stuff in late IP
    Role and climbing fast??!
    Holland Bates, Grace, Benincasa, Henke
    Mendez, Harper….interesting internal
    Possibilities .
Winter meetings in two months. Kkkkk

Such the over sight , soul drummer !
    Journey’s Daydream with the incredible
Neal Schon licks . Since the nats play
Seperate Ways- why not daydream to dream
Of diamonds once stone on a WS ring??

I always follow the AFL. But this year I’m not at all interested. In my opinion, there’s not one full time major leaguer in the group. Sure hope I’m wrong though.

Jeeves I would put Vegas chips on Severino
Reaching big club as serious two way catcher
As Ramos legs loose their youth.
On another note – we all wonder wonder what type
Of reactionary moves rizzo will have to
Make . Add a corner infielder after when and if
LaRoche leaves who will buy time while Skole
Plays @ Cuse. Bonafacio inked up in ATL .
Maybe some one simple as Coner Gillespie
    Or Dietrich from Fish??

What about Tyler Moore and Stephen Souza? Both can play first base. As for third base they really only need to train Espinosa to play there as well in spring training and they’ll be covered. Also have to wonder about 27 year old Brandon Laird? Were it not for Souza he might have made a run at the IL MVP?

Maybe you were opining about the dearth of left-handed bats which undoubtedly is where Skole comes in? After him its outfielders Brian Goodwin, Drew Vettleson, and Caleb Ramsey. That’s actually a lot better than it was I guess?

Its likely they’ll want a left-handed bat behind Zimmerman and Rendon and that could end up shaking out to be Matt Skole. Might be the cheapest, best solution overall since he can manage third base. Just need a guy like Espinosa with a glove to come in in the late innings.

Might sign a free agent or make a trade we’ll have to wait and see.

Actually, I totally agree. I had forgotten he was in Arizonia. Just picked up on the list you put up earlier. Was too lazy to look up the whole list again. My bad. Severiino not only is top notch defender, he started to hit in the second half and will be at AA at the tender age of 21/22.

When will Tony Renda get a hit? 0 for 16 as of tonight. Ugh…
