Two Syracuse pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout out as the Chiefs blanked the Bisons, 7-0. Aaron Laffey won his I.L.-leading 10th game with seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out three. Rafael Martin finished up the team’s 12th whitewash (also I.L.-best) by spinning two innings with one hit and walk allowed. Emmanuel Burriss missed the cycle by the usual (triple) but scored three times and drove in two to lead the Chiefs 13-hit parade.

Akron scored eight unanswered runs in their final two “ups” for an 11-2 win over Harrisburg and a split of the four-game series. Starter Brett Brach was knocked around for three in the 1st but recovered to post four zeroes to keep the Sens in the game. He would still lose as the firemen brought the gasoline instead of the water, as Scott McGregor and Brian Harper were torched for eight runs combined over the 7th and 8th innings. Despite drawing nine (9) walks, Harrisburg couldn’t take advantage as they struck out 11 times and hit into three double plays and mustered just four hits (all singles).

Potomac rallied for seven in the 8th, highlighted by Will Piwnica-Worms’s two-run homer that was last seen headed to Clifton for a 7-1 win over Frederick. Austin Voth gave up just two hits, but one was a solo HR for a tough-luck no-decision, as he struck out seven and walked just one. Randolph Oduber and Khayyan Norfork both went 2-for-4 with a run scored as the P-Nats notched nine hits total, six in the 8th. [Sorry folks, personal emergency – that’s why this is late.]

Hagerstown had difficulty scoring without the longball as they fell by one to Delmarva, 5-4 and ended a four-game win streak. Hector Silvestre took the loss — his sixth in seven starts — as he gave up four runs on 10 hits and two walks over five and a 1/3rd innings. He struck out a season-high of seven. Isaac Ballou and James Yezzo both smacked their 6th home run, combining for three of the four Suns runs, but a 1-for-11 with RISP and 13 strikeouts made it tough for the lineup to score otherwise.

Auburn built a 6-0 lead after three innings but gave it away as Batavia scored 10 runs over the next five innings. The Doubledays rallied for two in the 9th and got the tying runs to second and third with two outs before falling, 10-8. James Bourque was roughed up for two runs on four hits and two walks over two and a 1/3rd innings in his NYPL debut. The loss went to David Fischer as he was unable to retire any of the five batters he faced in the 5th after stranding three in the 4th with a double-play ball to end the inning. Jose “Orange” Marmolejos-Diaz fell a home run shy of the cycle as he went 4-for-5 with a double, a triple, and two RBI while Austin Davidson went 2-for-3 with 3RBI as Auburn pounded out 13 hits total.
