Transaction Update

Harrisburg and Potomac both announced a series of moves this afternoon, which I’ve included with a couple of roster moves between the GCL and Hagerstown.

• RHP Jimmy Barthmaier promoted from Potomac
• RHP Brian Broderick assigned from Washington (signed as FA)
• LHP Cory VanAllen placed on the 7-Day DL

• RHP Robert Gilliam demoted from Harrisburg

• RHP Alex Kreis assigned from GCL (rehab over)

• LHP Bobby Lucas assigned from Hagerstown (rehab beginning)

The promotion of Barthmaier has been expected for quite some time now, given his age (28) and experience, if not his production. The demotion of Gilliam is reminiscent of a similar move made last summer with Erik Davis, which we can only hope pays off in a similar fashion (but sooner, please – Potomac’s in a pennant race). No word yet as to how/when he’ll be used (starter vs. reliever).

As noted in the comments, Kreis is back after spending time in Viera rehabbing, while Bobby Lucas, as suggested in today’s GBI, is presumably headed south for some time with the coaches to work on his mechanics.
