Transaction Update (UPDATED)

July 19, 2012

Too many moves to wait until tomorrow’s news & notes…

HARRISBURG
• C Sandy Leon recalled to Washington
• C Devin Ivany activated from DL

POTOMAC
• RHP Alex Meyer promoted from Hagerstown
• RHP Aaron Barrett promoted from Hagerstown
• C Sam Palace transferred from Hagerstown (MiLB.com reporting, which conflicts with official release from Potomac = a release or DL stint not yet inputted).

HAGERSTOWN
• RHP Taylor Jordan transferred from Auburn (rehab)
• RHP Brian Rauh promoted from Auburn
• LHP Bobby Hansen Jr. activated from TIL
AUBURN
• SS Stephen Perez placed on the 7-day DL
• RHP Ivan Pineyro promoted from GCL
• RHP Michael Boyden promoted from GCL

GCL
• RHP Lucas Giolito assigned from Washington (1st rd. draft pick)
• RHP Mike Shultz assigned from Washington (FA signed in March, rehab)
• RHP Alex Kreis transferred from Hagerstown (rehab)
• 3B Anthony Rendon transferred from Potomac (rehab)

The promotions of RHPs Alex Meyer and Aaron Barrett are not yet official, thus the corresponding moves for Potomac are not yet known. As reported this morning in the News & Notes, it’s likely that one or both of the 28-year-old relievers (Jimmy Barthmaier, Adam Carr) will be promoted to make room and one of the current starting pitchers headed to the ‘pen or the DL (Sywnenberg fits the description in either case).

MASN’s Byron Kerr is stirring the pot with Suns position player possibilities, but subsequent maneuvers to any of these players is far less clear, given that there are only a couple of reasonable possibilities (Freitas, Hague), and both of them are unlikely to displace their counterparts (Leon, Walters) in Harrisburg.

UPDATE: The Meyer/Barrett promotions are now official, but no subsequent moves have been made. The ripple effect from the parent club recalling Sandy Leon is also noted (Harrisburg) as well as a couple of other, um, minor moves.

Is this the missing Elliot from Hagerstown?

Is Rauh expected to be the new Hagerstown closer?

Doubtful. He’d been used in long relief for Auburn and even started a game. Wouldn’t surprise me if McKenzie goes back to the ‘pen and Rauh takes his place in the rotation.

If for a starter spot, I’m really surprised the promotion went to a guy drafted this year and only has one start as opposed to Encarnacion, Medina, Monar, or Lee – all of which have arguably had more starter success than Rauh (5.40 ERA in 1 start).

All but Monar spent the majority of 2011 in the GCL, whereas Rauh began 2012 in Auburn, which is an indication of what the organization thinks of him relative to those pitchers to a certain extent. Until we see how and when he’s used, it’s all just speculation.

Good point on where they started – with exception of Monar, but if that group continues to pitch well, I’d like to see at least one other get the bump to increase the Hagerstown starting pitching.

When watching Rick Hague play- he looks like he should belong in a higher level of baseball. So if he was moved to AA or even AAA it wouldn’t be a surprise. He’s a 5 tool player and enjoyable to watch on the feild.

Already 3 more transactions since your update Luke. Will be interesting to see if Perez can learn to take a few BB’s and maybe gain some pop. Goodwin didn’t get the press that Rendon and Purke did, but he tore up A ball.
