*Obligatory promote Skole already post*
Also, it’s good to see Hague finally putting things together. He’s definitely the dark horse in our farm system, and I think he could be the best of our middle infield prospects.
I’m curious about their use of him at DH. IIRC when he was drafted, his defense wasn’t much of a concern- meaning he’d stick at SS. Are they still just slowly easing him back in? How has his defense looked?
Nope. He’s improved, but let me quote Sickels from his 2012 book: “The main question here is defense. He is very error-prone at shortstop, may not have the power for third base, and isn’t quick enough with his hands to be more than adequate at second.”
Hague, Martinson, Sanchez, and Kelso have been rotating between DH and the non-1B spots in the IF. This may be part of the reason why Skole is staying put (read: conjecture, not agreement) because it’s pretty clear they want him playing defense every day.
You can argue all you like about which of those four ought to be benched, but I will say this much: sticking someone over at 1B is unlikely to be much different than what we’re seeing from Stephen King and Francisco Soriano (i.e. athletic guys struggling with the nuances of a new position).
Thank you. 🙂
Baseball America mid-season top 50 prospects is up. There are no Nats on the list which isn’t surprising given the injuries and promotions. Nevertheless, its fun for those of us that enjoy a good ol’ list.
And the graduations (Harper, Lombardozzi, and in a few days, Moore).
Moore still has about 80 AB’s till losing his prospect status.
Not bad for our 17th rated prospect.
Actually, I’m wrong — he’s spent more than 45 days on the MLB roster during the 25-man period (April to August).
Sickels came out with his updated top 120 a couple days ago.
34) Anthony Rendon, 3B, Washington Nationals (20)
65) Brian Goodwin, OF, Washington Nationals (HM)
74) Alex Meyer, RHP, Nationals (HM)
All made his top 100 and Skole got an honorable mention.
