Looks like Pudge is having trouble with the bat even in the Puerto Rican league. Love his arm, but they gotta have a better hitting back up than him.
Sec 314, if you look around baseball, almost all backup catchers are what’s called ‘catch & throw’ guys. Which is polite for can’t hit.
Pudge fits this better than most, all the other catchers in our system need lots of AB’s to keep developing.
He stopped hitting 5 years ago, but is still a fantastic defensive player.
Certainly less troubling than Marrero’s lost power.
Nice to see Flores mashing in Winter Ball. Hopefully this increases his potential trade value, although I’d like to see him stay, arb eligible or no.
Marrero starting to hit better too. Pretty consistent-now if we could only get more power from him.
Anyone think that with Severinos numbers, they might chose to let Gorzy go?
If Gorzelanny is non-tendered, it won’t be because of Severino’s numbers in the DR. It will be because Rizzo thinks paying $2M+ for what he sees as a LHLR is too much.
The #1 reason to let Gorzo go would be if the Lerners are still counting pennies. He was terrific in middle relief.
And his stats (ignored by doghouse) show that he was more effective as a left handed starter than Lannan?
I think he stays. He had some injury issues. He’s a lefty they’ll give him a chance to work things out.
Ladson is reporting that Chris Marerro has torn his left hamstring in winter ball. An already slow runner and below average fielder with that injury? He won’t be ready for spring training. Glad I am that I left him off of my list of top 10 bats I sent to Sue, must have had a premonition again … 😉
I assume that means Tyler Moore moves up minimally starting at first base for the AAA Chiefs? And can someone explain why the Nats are interested in Mark DeRosa as a result of the Marerro injury?
Ladson is supposed to address the Prince Fielder -> Nats speculation.
Update: Marerro hurt himself two weeks ago “stretching” … there goes any chance of using him in a trade.
With the interest in DeRosa, you have to wonder if Lombardozzi becomes the new trading chip.
I think Lombardozzi needs to play everyday in AAA next year. I say bring back Hairston for next year, than go to Lombo
Pudge fits this better than most, all the other catchers in our system need lots of AB’s to keep developing.
According to Knorr Solano is ready. And his winter ball stats look as good as Marerro’s?
Ladson thinks Fielder could happen.
