Transaction Update

As referenced in this morning’s News & Notes, the Potomac Nationals have indeed added another pitcher, activating RHP Shane McCatty from Extended Spring Training, per an official team release.

McCatty is a 34th round pick from the 2009 Draft. He spent 2011 in Hagerstown primarily as a reliever, appearing in 30 games with one start. He compiled a 2-3 record with one save, a 6.63 ERA, and a 1.632 WHIP.

Via Twitter, Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus and Matt Eddy of Baseball America are both reporting that the Nationals have signed 27-year-old infielder Jim Negrych, an ’06 Sixth-Round Pick that spend 2011 in AA for the Marlins, posting a .304/.370/.402 line.

No assignment or corresponding move for the Negrych signing has been officially announced. As always, if one is made or found in the next day or so, this space will be updated.
