As we have the previous two editions, let’s review the 2014-season selections before discussing the 2015-season group:
Davinson Pimentel
2014: .350/.443/.550, .983 FA at 1B, +.102 GPA
2015: .167/.189/.222, .978 FA at C, -.104 GPA (GCL)
Telmito Agustin
2014: .300/.413/.495, .966 FA in LF, +.075
2015: .331/.371/.446, .929 FA in LF, +.052 (GCL)
2015: .400/.419/.567, .900 FA in LF, +.100 (NYPL) → Made the 2016 watchlist as an OF
Victor Robles
2014: .313/.408/.484, .948 FA in CF, +.070
2015: .370/.484/.562, .921 FA in CF, +.132 (GCL)
2015: .343/.424/.479, 1.000 FA in CF, +.080 (NYPL) → Made the 2016 watchlist as an OF
Israel Mota
2014: .310/.355/.485, .934FA in RF, +.046
2015: .221/.272/.291, .933FA in RF, -.031
Andres Martinez
2014 .302/.413/.376, .908 FA at SS, +.045
2015:.227/.299/.320, .919 FA at SS, -.012
This time around, just two of the five “progressed” at the next level, but it was not just a little. Robles and Agustin both made it up to the NYPL and both were named to the 2016 watchlist at their position. Considering how volatile the short-season guys are, that’s not bad.
Now, for the 2016 guys…
Aldrem Corredor
POS: 1B/OF
JULY 1, 2016 AGE: 20
STATS: .303/.411/.417, .974 (1B), +.051 GPA vs. DSL Lg. Avg. of .238
Corredor was a named as a DSL guy after the 2013 season and wasn’t horrible in 2014, but was dropped back down, presumably to learn a new position (1B), but other factors could be at play.
Luis Perdomo
POS: OF/1B/DH
JULY 1, 2016 AGE:19
STATS: .295/.385/.405, .935 (LF), +.037
Perdomo was repeating the league as an 18-y.o. and it would logical to infer that he put on some muscle as his slugging percentage jumped from .242 to .405 year over year.
Edwin Ventura
POS: OF
JULY 1, 2016 AGE:18
STATS: .300/.374/.387, .949 (RF), +.027
Ventura was tried at all three OF positions and showed decent power and speed for 17-y.o. in his first pro season.
Roberto Medina
POS: C-DH
JULY 1, 2016 AGE:18
STATS: .317/.372/.442, 1.000 (C), +.040 .372
Medina split time between catching and being a DH but put up strong numbers as a 17-y.o.
Juan Evangelista
POS: OF
JULY 1, 2016 AGE:18
STATS: .283/.328/.443, .946 (CF), +.020
Not as much speed as Ventura, but more power. Used almost exclusively in centerfield
