Tanner Roark spun his best effort of the year while Brett Carroll came off the bench and hit a three-run HR as the Chiefs beat the Red Wings, 6-1. Roark gave up a first-inning HR then threw six shutout innings, finishing with just four hits and two walks allowed and nine strikeouts over seven stanzas. Subbing for Eury Perez, who left the game after a collision at second base in the course of a successful steal, Carroll launched his big fly in the 7th to put the game on ice as the Chiefs scored six times on just eight hits, though four went for extra bases.

A five-run fourth powered New Hampshire in a 7-3 win over Harrisburg. Starter Ryan Perry went six innings, but the crooked number stands out in his line of five runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Brian Goodwin connected for his first AA home run in the third inning, which gave the Sens their only lead at 1-0. Jimmy Van Ostrand homered in the next inning and led the hit column with a 3-for-4 night.

A nine-run 4th erased an early 1-0 deficit as Potomac won on the road for just the 13th time this season in a 10-1 rout of Lynchburg. Eight of the nine runs were unearned as the Hill City Kitties committed three of their four errors in the fateful frame, which saw the P-Nats send 13 men to the plate and was capped off by Jason Martinson’s 9th home run for Potomac and 19th overall. Starter Matt Grace got the win with seven innings pitched, one run allowed on eight hits, no walks, and three strikeouts. Rob Wort and Neil Holland each turned in a scoreless inning to help the P-Nats return to a three-way tie for first place.

Spot starter Christian Meza turned in five innings of one-hit ball to lead the Suns past the Blue Claws, 6-2. Meza walked two while striking out six to earn his sixth win. Cutter Dykstra and Justin Miller both homered to help Hagerstown build a 4-0 lead. After Lakewood cut the lead in half with single runs in the 6th and 8th innings, Bryce Ortega’s two-run single in the last of the 8th salted it away while Richie Mirowski pitched around a hit and a walk in the 9th to close the door in a non-save situation.

“Oh, no, not this again” might have been the feeling of the fans after the Jammers went up 3-1 after one, but the Doubledays rallied for six in the 8th and two in the 9th to erase both the deficit and the doubt for a 9-4 win. Brett Mooneyham shook off that first inning to go four more for a line of three runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings. Michael Boyden and Derek Self got the win and save respectively, each going two innings. Wander Ramos drove in three, including two in the 9th on a home run to lead the Auburn offense, which collected 10 hits total.

With two runs in the top of the 8th, the G-Nats broke a 1-1 tie and held on for a 3-1 win vs. the G-Marlins. DH Anthony Rendon homered in the top of the 1st and drew two walks, including what proved to be the game-winning run, scored by PR Tony Nix. Dixon Anderson made his second appearance and struck out two while allowing a hit over the first two frames. Will Hudgins relieved and got the win with a run on five hits and a walk over five innings and three strikeouts. Matt Foat led the hit column with a 3-for-5 afternoon.

Twelve stranded runners and a runner thrown at the plate were the difference as the D-Nats outhit the D-Mets1 10-6 but lost, 4-3. The D-Nats were just 2-for-11 with RISP. Starter Elisaul Gomez took the loss with all four runs allowed on five hits and a walk while striking out six. 17-y.o. Venezuelan Melvi Salazar turned in three shutout innings of relief. Randy Novas paced the offense with a single, a double, a walk, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
