The Red Wings broke up the MAHA convention on the scoreboard with two runs in the 5th and Sam Petersen put the game away in the 6th with an Earl Weaver special as three Nats pitchers shut out the Mets on three hits, 5-0 to take the opener. Isaac Lyon earned his first AAA win with two hits and a walk over the first five innings and four K’s while Kyle Nicolas struck out the side in the 6th and Paxton Schultz worked around a double in the 7th. Petersen also singled and scored a run in the 5th after Seaver King’s 10th double pushed him to 3rd. Roster moves: C Kyle Hayes put back in storage placed on the Development List; RHP Jack Sinclair added to 40-man roster, recalled to Washington; LHP Tom Cosgrove outrighted from Washington; RHP Joe Glassey promoted from Harrisburg.

In the nightcap, Rochester blew leads of 2-0 and 4-2 and fell 7-4 in extras, 7-4. Justin Lawrence blew the first lead with two runs in his single inning thrown. Eddie Yean was trotted out for the 17th time to get the save and failed for the 8th time, letting in the free runner and one of his own on two hits and two walks (one intentional) in the 8th. In the 9th, Gus Varland struck out the first batter, hit the second, and served up a three-run HR to the third to take the loss. Rochester tallied nine hits but only two came with RISP. Fortunately, both times the ball exited the park in fair territory with Trey Lipscomb hitting his 30th in the 5th and Riley Adams his 15th in the 8th. The last Nationals minor-leaguers to hit 30 or more HRs were Yadiel Hernández (33) and Brandon Snyder (31) for AAA Fresno in 2019. The last to do it in a normal run-scoring environment was Tyler Moore with 31 in both 2011 (AA) and 2010 (A+).

Five Harrisburg pitchers combined to blank Altoona, 5-0 on five hits. Yoel Tejada Jr. bounced back from his worst start of the season to post his best at AA with two baserunners in five innings (one hit, one walk) and eight strikeouts. He was rewarded with a no-decision as Sam Brown’s two-run HR in the 6th gave the “W” to Jhancarlos Lara. After goose eggs by Kendeglys Virguez and Robert Cranz, Holden Powell worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his eighth save. Kevin Made singled, doubled, and walked while Ethan Petry singled twice to power the Sens offense. Roster moves: C Edgardo Figueroa activated from the Development List.

Carson Fischer tied his season high with seven full innings in a 5-1 Blue Rocks win over the Renegades. The 23-y.o. gave up the lone Hudson Valley run a solo HR in the 1st and four hits total with no walks and five whiffs. Yeremy Cabrera singled twice, scored twice, and stole his 34th base while Caleb Farmer went 2-for-4 with an RBI to power the Wilmington offense.

Fredericksburg batted around twice and went through the lineup nearly seven times in a 24-2 annihilation of Wilson. Marlon De La Cruz reverted to the mean with both Warbirds runs allowed on a hit and four walks over an inning and 2/3rds. Jacob Weaver got his first professional win with four and 2/3rds scoreless innings, allowing three hits, one walk, and striking out six. Every batter but one had multiple hits and the one who didn’t (Coy James) drove in three and hit two sacrifice flies. Jordan Williams led the charge with four singles, a walk, five runs scored, two stolen bases, three RBI, and a partridge in a pear tree while Hunter Hines hit the only home run, his 15th at Low-A and 19th overall.
