Rochester Red Wings, 45-28, 1st I.L. East, 1GB
Rochester caught fire in mid-May, winning nine straight at one point, but it was only enough to catch Memphis, not to surge past. While not yet official, Tres Barrera announced his retirement yesterday after nine seasons in the minors, parts of four seasons in the majors, and one season in the Mexican League. This week, the Red Wings start the second half with a trip to Charlotte for six night games.
Harrisburg Senators, 34-35, 4th E.L. Southwest, 9½ GB
The Senators finished the second half with a thud, losing three straight and getting shut out both games this past weekend. Somehow, this week is the first six of 18 games against Chesapeake (neé Bowie), which may help get them started as the BaySox finished last in the division in the first half.
Wilmington Blue Rocks, 3-0, 1st Sally Lg. North, 1GA – 34-34 Overall
Wilmington quietly swept Brooklyn by a 37-15 margin including a 6-0 shutout to get back to .500 for the season and take a one-game in the second half. This week, the Blue Rocks play the Keys for just the second time (*gasp*) this season with three series in three months over the second half.
Fredericksburg Nationals, 2-1, T1st C.L. North – 48-21 Overall
The FredNats took four of six from the RidgeYaks, setting a franchise record after the first two wins and achieving the most wins in a half by a Low-A team since 2005 (a.k.a. the Nationals era). Freericksburg remains at home this week to host the Wilson Warbirds for the first of three series in the second half (July on the road, September at home).
FCL Mets 8 FCL Nationals 4
• Bothwell (L, 2-2) 4IP, 5H, 4R, 3ER, 2BB, 8K, HR, BK, E, PO @ 2B
• Waco ⅔ IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K, HBP
• L. Arias 2-3, 2B, 2RBI
• F. Tavarez 1-3, R, BB, RBI
The FCL Nationals were doubled up by the FCL Mets, 8-4. Ty Bothwell muddled through four innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits (one HR) and two walks. He struck out a career-high eight batters. Luis Arias singled, doubled, and drove in two while Feldi Tavarez singled, walked, scored a run, and drove in a run to lead the F-Nats attack.
DSL Mets Orange 4 DSL Nationals 2
• Sarit (L, 1-1) 3IP, 4H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 3K
• Carrasco 3IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• J. Castillo 2-3
• Vargas 1-2, 2B, SB(5)
The D-Mets Orange got four in the 1st and that would be enough as the D-Nats were only able to answer with single runs in the 5th and 6th innings for a 4-2 loss. Ranger Sarit gave up all four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three for the loss. Jesus Carrasco finished the game with three scoreless, with two hits, no walks, and four whiffs. Jesus Castillo singled twice while Esnaider Vargas doubled to highight a five-hit barrage.

Do the teams just do a Venmo electronic transaction for $50K?
Or do the Nats use PNC? lol
not a lot of prospect buzz on De La Cruz due to his command issues but he’s bigger than listed and sits 94-96. a great piece of clay for the new development team.
Good catch and feel , Fred MD on DelaRosa !
Congrats to the entire Willets family ! Bravo .
Every time I see the name Eli it takes me back to my youth rooting for Cool Hand Eli Tim Wallach number 29 .
You never knew if the team was winning or losing by looking at his face
Just cool customer
I have a feeling Barrera was prompted into retiring by an impending promotion of Max Romero. He’s got an OPS of .948 in Harrisburg and has probably earned a promotion to AAA.
Good call Kevin !
