The Red Wings outdueled the (ugh) WooSox to prevail, 3-2 in extra innings and win for the fourth straight game. Zach Penrod was the opener and struck out two in his single inning pitched. Carson Palmquist let in an unearned run in the 5th to tie things at 2-2. Trey Lipscomb broke the seal with an RBI single in the 2nd, Seaver King, who was the sole Rochester batter not to strike out, gave the Red Wings a 2-1 lead with an RBI single in the 3rd, and the game-winner came on a botched sacrifice by Lipscomb in the 10th that enabled Robert Hassell to score from second. Roster moves: LHP PJ Poulin recalled to Washington; RHP Riley Cornelio optioned from Washington; RHP Erick Mejia reassigned from Harrisburg.

Harrisburg scored twice in the top of the 9th and held off Richmond for a 7-6 win, ending a three-game slide. Alex Clemmey pitched into the 6th for his sixth stright start, but allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits (one HR) and a walk for a no-decision. The win went to Robert Cranz with a scoreless 8th while Holden Powell worked around a walk in the 9th to earn his third save. Max Romero homered again, walked twice, and drove in the equalizer with an RBI single in the 9th. Chad Lomavita, who had doubled twice, then walked as did Leandro Pineda to send in the game-winner.

The Blue Rocks lost an early 2-1 lead, fell behind 7-2, and battled to a 7-7 with two in the 8th amd three in the 9th. Alas, a solo HR with one out in the 9th gave Greensboro the 8-7 win over Wilmington. Xander Meckley let in three on six hits and four walks over four and a 1/3rd while striking out one. The loss went to Euri Montero, who struck out the first batter before giving up the walkoff HR. Angel Feliz and Ronny Cruz both homered while Kevin Bazzell, Jacob Walsh, and Feliz all went 2-for-5 to lead the Wilmington offense.

Fredericksburg put up crooked numbers in four of nine “ups” as they pummeled Kannapolis, 10-4 for their 44th win, tying the 2014 Suns for the most wins in a half during the Nationals era of the franchise. Carson Fischer gave up all three Cannon Ballers runs as he was strafed for 10 hits over four innings with no walks and two whiffs. Travis “Sunday” Sthele picked up the win with two and 2/3rds scoreless relief. Rafael Ramirez Jr. was thhe beer man on a 11-hit, seven-walk night by the FredNats ofense, led by Nick Hollifield with three singles and two walks, followed by Elian Soto with two singles and two walks.

• Schoff (BS, 2; L, 2-3) 1⅓ IP, 3H, 3R, 1ER, 0BB, 2K

SSDG. The F-Nats blew another two-run lead in the 9th and lost in 10 innings, 4-3 to the F-Mets. Brock Gillis pitched into the 5th and allowed one run on four hits and two walk. Tyler Schoff did little to make the case for an escape from West Palm Beach as the 27-y.o. notched his second blown save and third loss with two runs let in during the 9th and the free runner in the 10th on three hits total. Jorgelys Mota singled, homered, and walked while Victor Hurtado hit a two-run single, which was the one hit in 13 RISP chances as the F-Nats left on six runners and hit into two double plays.

The DSL Nationals closed out the week with a loss to the DSL Mets Orange, 4-2. Jhondel Salas made his first start but was charged with two earned runs on no hits, three walks, and three whiffs and saddled with the loss. Angel Ramirez connected for the D-Nats’ sole hit while Isias Suarez walked twice and stole two bases to pace the offense.

    a solid effort by Clemmey against the top hitting team in the Eastern League. the Squirrels don’t chase and only got one free pass.

    time is still on our side with this kid, looking forward to the second half of the year with the new development team.
