Rains from Hurricane Irene have postponed this one until today, when they’ll attempt to play a doubleheader at Lehigh Valley at 6:05 p.m.
Harrisburg — OFF DAY
The Senators play the next eight at home, riding a seven-game win streak and leading the E.L. West by 4½ games. A playoff berth is a near certainty, but their first-round opponent is not as Bowie and Richmond are separated by just 1½ games.

Potomac scored all three runs via the longball and held off a late charge by the Keys for a 3-2 win in the first game. Jeff Kobernus hit a two-run shot in the 6th to go up 2-1 while Jose Lozada’s solo shot in the 7th extended the lead to 3-1. Joe Testa, Marcos Frias, and Hector Nelo each got two outs to nail down the win for Sammy Solis, who gave up an unearned run on four hits while striking out eight over the first five innings.

The big fly continued to power the Potomac offense in the nightcap, but three solo shots weren’t enough as Frederick got the 4-3 win to split the doubleheader and prevent a series sweep. Erik Davis lost for the fourth time in five starts, allowing all four Keys runs on four hits and three walks. Francisco Soriano, Jeff Kobernus, and rehabbing Ivan Rodriguez all went 1-for-3 with a solo HR in the loss, which puts Potomac 3½ back in the C.L. North with seven games left to play.

Asheville tired slightly from Saturday night, scoring just 15 runs against Hagerstown on Sunday afternoon to take their third straight from the Suns, 15-5. Matt Grace got 12 outs and gave up 11 runs on 14 hits and a walk for his seventh loss of the year. Blake Kelso led the Suns offense with a 2-for-5 game, as Hagerstown took advantage of the six walks they drew to score five runs on six hits. The loss (fifth straight) drops the Suns to .500 at 31-31, 5½ games behind and reduces their elimination number to just two.
Auburn — PPD
It was either the rain or the underpants gnomes that convinced team officials to postpone Sunday’s series finale to this Friday, when Auburn and Batavia will play a pair of seven-inning games in the final regular-season home game for the Doubledays.
Hope everybody got through Irene ok. When Harrisburg makes it into the playoffs will NATS let Harper play? I read somewhere that is what he would like to do.
I doubt it, but I’ve been proven wrong before when it comes the younger Harper.
Holy c___ what is Tyler Moore’s future? What else does he need to prove? It’ll be interesting to see what Rizzo does in the next 6 months with Moore and Marrero and Desmond and Lombardozzi. Any guesses?
Well, if you believe the cynics, Marrero’s “early” callup is designed to showcase him for an offseason trade. Could that make room for Moore? Perhaps but I’m inclined to believe that Moore will have to prove himself at the AAA level, too — especially since he’s never played anywhere but 1B in the minors.
That must put me as a member of the highly cynical, as I think both Marrero & Moore are best suited for AL-based teams. The bats play for both of them, but they are both challenged defensively as well.
I could see teams like DET, LAA, & SEA having at least a passing interest in someone like Moore, and OAK, TEX, CLE, & TB all having a roster spot for someone like Marrero.
I’m getting ahead of myself here, but the parent club could do well by moving one of them in the off-season, particularly if they plan on keeping both Morse & LaRoche in 2012.
