After five perfect innings, Stephen Strasburg gave up two hits in the 6th and was lifted with a 1-0 lead after his 64th pitch. Craig Stammen let in one baserunner to tie the game but got the win when the Chiefs reclaimed the lead. Syracuse would go on to win by a 4-3 count, ending a three-game losing streak. Strasburg walked none and struck out seven and is expected to make one more rehab start before returning to the Washington roster. Roger Bernadina and Jhonatan Solano both went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Chiefs offense.

The Senators rallied for two in the 2nd and the pitching made it stand up for a 2-1 win over New Hampshire. Tanner Roark went seven-plus innings to earn his ninth win, allowing the Fisher Cats’ run on five hits and two walks. He struck out two. Tim Pahuta connected for a solo HR while Leonard Davis (single) and Devin Ivany (double) teamed up for the second run. Cory VanAllen, Rafael Martin, and Hassan Pena combined to shut down New Hampshire for the last two innings. The win, which was the seventh straight for Harrisburg, extends the Sens lead on Bowie to five games in the E.L. West, while Richmond is just a ½-game behind the BaySox for the wild card position.

The ancillary effects of Hurricane Irene (a.k.a. rain) postponed Saturday’s game. The two teams will attempt to make it up today with a doubleheader at 1:05 p.m.

Four Suns got ejected and eight home runs were surrendered as the Asheville Tourists pummeled Hagerstown, 21-11. Adrian Nieto and manager Brian Daubach got tossed in the bottom of the 1st, while hitting coach Marlon Anderson hit the showers in the 3rd and Robbie Ray was given the heave-ho in the 4th in the midst of a six-run rally. Brett Newsome led the Suns offense with a 3-for-4 night, hitting the sole Hagerstown homer. The Suns’ fourth straight loss dropped them to five behind in the Sally North with an elmination number of just four.

Russell Moldenhauer’s three-run bomb in the 6th tied the game at 4-4, but the Auburn bullpen faltered for a 7-5 loss to Batavia. Brian Dupra went the first four innings, giving up the first four runs (three earned) on a walk and seven hits and striking out two. Travis Henke took the loss on an unearned run allowed over two innings. The loss ended a modest three-game win streak, but another Williamsport loss reduced the magic number to clinch the Pinckney Division of the NYPL to just six with eight games left.

The G-Nats bullpen couldn’t hold a 1-0 lead in the middle innings as the GCL Cardinals won the season finale, 3-2. Gregory Baez left the game with the bases loaded and no outs in the 5th after the first three batters reached base. He took the loss with two runs allowed on two hits and three walks while striking out five. Wander Ramos and Arialdi Peguero were the only two G-Nats to hit safely. Thanks to the cancellations earlier this week, the G-Nats escaped last place with a 20-33 mark, 17½ games in back of the GCL Marlins

It looks like all 3 teams have just about locked up their playoff spots. Lots to get excited about here.
Would love to get the full skinny on the Hagerstown game, will try and find something.
I listened to most of the game, and the skinny is to me that the team has given up. The frustrations of tanking in the first half, then doing the same down the stretch here has finally come out. Losing Manno was, IMHO, the nail in the coffin. He was (my perception) the team leader and team prankster. The umpiring in the last few games (what i’ve seen at the Muni) has been terrible as well, with all 3 coaches yelling from the dugout at the plate ump for most of the last home stand. I was surprised no one got kicked out then. I think the coaches are as frustrated as us fans. 🙁
