With four relievers each putting up a goose egg, Rochester took the series opener. Darren Baker played a part in both rallies, tying the game with an RBI single, stealing second while Nick Schnell stole home, and then doubling inthe final two runs to finish 3-for-4 with 3RBI. Chase Solesky went the first five and and gave up the Clippers run on a home run and four hits total. He walked two and struck out six while earning the win, his second.

Last week, the Blue Rocks held serve against the IronBirds for a 3-3 series split but remain in last place. This week, Wilmington stays on the road to play Hudson Valley for the third of five series this season.

The F-Nats fell behind 8-1 before going medieval on the F-Marlins ‘pen, scoring 12 unanswered runs for 13-8 win. Starter Brayan Romero “worked on some things” for two runs, three hits, and two walks while striking out three. Tommy Kane won for the third time in four appearances, stranding a runner in the 4th and throwing three scoreless with one hit, no walks, and five whiffs. Luis Arias was the proverbial triple shy of the cycle and scored three runs while Enmanuel Ramirez reached base four times with three singles and a walk to lead FCL Nationals’ 13-hit parade.
TOLMAN, JOHNSON NAMED PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Erik Tolman and Luke Johnson were named Pitcher of the Week for the South Atlantic and Florida Complex League, respectively for May 19-25. Tolman, the Nats 14th Rd. pick in 2021, closed out Wilmington’s 4-3 win a week ago today with three scoreless innings and did the same as the opener on Saturday in a 6-4 win. Johnson, a 10th Rd. pick last year, retired 14 of 15 batters face in relief last Thursday.
Sam Petersen is now batting .400/.556/.550 in 8 rehab games in FCL. It’s been a weird rehab, as he returned then got injured again and has again returned to rehab from that injury. But it hasn’t slowed him down a bit. In only 7 games last season (also a bit unclear why he reported so late in ’24), he batted .364/.400/.591. The guy is raking.
Petersen was an 8th rounder with a bit of hype. He was just outside of MLB’s top 200 prospects of the ’24 draft, and had excellent numbers at Iowa (1.033 OPS in ’23 and 1.031 OPS in ’24). He strikes me as a Andrew Pinckney type of player: middling power with some speed and good corner OF defence. But by the end of May the season after his drafting, Pinckney was already playing in AA, while Petersen still finds himself in the FCL.
Petersen seems rehabilitated, now get him to Wilmington, where they need his bat. Brenner Cox’s .382 OPS in RF isn’t cutting it.

Thanks Nattering. It’s good to see three of the five top OPS be actual prospects. And Cluff may actually get his cup of coffee sooner or later at age 28.
