FCL Nationals Postponed @ FCL Marlins, 12pm

Rochester Red Wings, 10-27, 10th place I.L. East, 16GB
The Red Wings return home to host the Bulls for five night games and a Sunday matinee after another two-win series. Yesterday, Cade Cavalli was activated from Washington’s 15-day I.L. and optioned, a procedural move that only means that the Nationals were unwilling to activate him after his 30-day rehab period was over.

Harrisburg Senators, 17-16, 2nd place E.L. Southwest, 4GB
Harrisburg gained no ground but got over .500 with a 4-2 series win over Richmond. The Senators are now the #3 offense (4.88 R/G) and have the 4th-best pitching (4.12 R/G) in the Eastern League and are actually two games below their pythagorean projection. This week, they’re in Altoona with an 11am game tomorrow and night games the rest of the series.

Wilmington Blue Rocks, 10-23, 6th place Sally Lg. North, 13½ GB
As expected, the Blue Rocks were steamrolled by the Renegades, 5-1, and are on a five-game skid. They remain home this week to take on the BlueClaws for six, with matinees tomorrow and Sunday.

Fredericksburg Nationals, 15-17, 4th Place C.L. North, 7GB
Fredericksburg fell two games further off the pace with 2-4 showing against Lynchburg, the last four losses in a row. If the FredNats are to make a run at the first half title, they’re going to need to follow the lead of Harrisburg and make hay against last-place Delmarva this week and next month.

FCL Nationals vs. FCL Mets – PPD
Yesterday was the first rainout for the F-Nats. They’ll make it up on Friday when they visit the F-Mets in Port St. Lucie. Meawnwhile, Jose Feliz was named FCL Pitcher of the Week for May 5-11 as the 19-y.o. tossed eight shutout innings across two starts, with three hits allowed, 12 strikeouts, and no walks.

Don’t know if it was reported here, but Susana has been diagnosed with a UCL sprain. They seem to be optimistic that he’ll avoid TJ, but I’ll believe it when I see it. All too often these milder strains just turn into a multi-month delay of the inevitable. So you can either take this UCL strain as good news or bad news.

I think I read it on MASN. They said it was grade 1 and weren’t too concerned. I’m also trying to be optimistic, but have been disappointed too many times in the past. I guess we’ll find out in a couple weeks when he starts throwing again.

Focusing on the positives, there’s some really encouraging hitting happening in Harrisburg, as Luke already pointed out.

Phillip Glasser is hitting out of his socks with a slash of .370/.426/.489 good for a 170 wRC+. But it doesn’t end there. Joe Naranjo has quietly put up a 23% BB%, resulting in an OBP of .459 (!!) and a 162 wRC+. Yohandy Morales isn’t far behind with a very impressive slash of .293/.352/.525 and a 154 wRC+ (prospect watchers take notice!!). Daylen Lile, already promoted to Rochester, posted a 145 wRC+.

Arruda (134 wRC+), Schnell (132), Romero (106) and de la Cruz (102) are all also above average hitters. And Cayden Wallace has turned his season around, with a 97 wRC+ on the season, as well as a slash of .296/.400/.546 over his past 12 games.

    Lots to like here!

the Senators were a lot of fun to watch this week. Delino coached first base part of the week, I felt that there was more coaching going on, instead of just throwing a player out there
