The wheels came off the bus in the 7th as Iowa scored all four of its runs during that inning in a 4-0 shutout of Rochester. Jackson Rutledge tossed six scoreless innings of two-hit, four-walk ball while striking out four. The loss went to Tim Cate, who retired one of four batters faced while Jordan Weems allowed both inherited runners to score. Joey Meneses singled and doubled while Riley Adams had two safeties. The rest of the lineup went 3-for-25 with 12 strikeouts, including an 0-for-10 mark with RISP.
Roster moves: SS C.J. Abrams demoted from Washington; UT Trey Lipscomb recalled to Washington; RHP Brad Lord, LHP Garvin Alston hidden placed on Developmental List; RHP Adonis Medina activated from 7-day I.L.
Decent finish to the season for Rutledge, although the 4/4 K/BB won’t cut it. Maybe he’ll get called up for one more look with the big club. Too bad he can’t play shortstop . . .
Here’s hoping the Red Wings can go 1-0 today and finish the season on a positive note.
it would neither shock nor disappoint me to see Rutledge get a start for the big club. through all his struggles this year he’s stayed healthy and accumulated over 125 innings at AAA and MLB levels. I’m not betting my lunch money on him but Parker surprised me so maybe he will too.
