The Red Wings scored once in the 9th to tie and once in the 10th to walk off the Cube for their third straight win, 1-0. The rally took Brad Lord off the hook for the would-be loss despite allowing the lone Iowa run on six hits, two walks, and seven whiffs over six innings. It was his tenth quality start of his three-level season. Daison Acosta (1IP) and Amos Willingham (2IP) combined for three scoreless to make the comeback possible.
In the 9th, Riley Adams and Joey Meneses both flared opposite-field hits to shallow right to set up runners on the corners for Robert Hassell who beat out a grounder to short to send in Adams and force extras. After Rico Garcia struck out two in a 1-2-3 top of the 10th, Stone Garrett ended it with a single to center that plated Andrew Pinckney. Roster moves: RHP Zach Brzykcy optioned from Washington.
Good for Lord to finish with a strong outing. I still see him as more Craig Stammen than Jordan Zimmermann but he has a confidence in his stuff that serves him well.
Sounds like Rochester are getting a new shortstop for the last week of the season….
Bloody hell….
Not even the “last week.” The final Red Wing game is tomorrow. Very unlikely that Abrams will even report. Likely told to go home and get his act together, or else. (Much like Souza was at around the same age, although he was still in the low minors at the time.)
Good to see Lipscomb rewarded with a recall to spend the end of the season getting MLB per diem. As has been noted here, Lipscomb seems to have accepted his demotions with a good attitude and hit well back at AAA.
