Fredericksburg Nationals – OFF DAY
With Kannapolis edging Charleston 2-1 in 11 innings last night, the Carolina League will have a new champion in 2024. The FredNats will visit tomorrow night for Game 1 of the Mills Cup Championship and then return home on Tuesday for Game 2 with Game 3 set for Wednesday, if necessary. Both games in Fredericksburg have the caveat of weather permitting, thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Francine. Longtime readers may recall that the 2018 LCS was reduced to one game and the 2017 edition was canceled due to similar circumstances.
We haven’t talked much about Marquis Grissom Jr., but there’s a lot to like about what he has done in his second full summer as a pro, his age-22 season. He was a mediocre starter at Georgia Tech (5.69 ERA), but unlike with so many others, the Nats were quick with the decision to move him to the bullpen, where he has thrived. Across A+/AA this season, he has a 2.21 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and a 9.5/2.2 K/BB.
Pretty good stats indeed. Have been following him. What type of pitches does he have and speed of his fastball?
