As Mark Zuckerberg noted on MASN, most of the changes are centered on the hitting coaches, with new faces in the ‘Burgs and Delwyn Young heading up I-95 to Wilmington. Given that the Nats’ affiliates were last or next-to-last at four of the six levels, this is not a surprise.
What is a surprise is how little things changed in the DSL and at AAA. The latter makes sense; AAA is no longer about PD but a place to keep the taxi squad ready to go. But the ’23 D-Nats were D-worst and one would think that would effect some significant changes. Apprarently not, which might signal that we’re going to see another batch of almost-18-yo’s that the Nats hope were overlooked.
In general, most of the changes are, um, minor. Given that two of three major offseason moves in the front office were internal, “next man up” hires – Eddie Longosz for De Jon Watson, Fausto Severino for Johnny DiPuglia – that’s why. If anyone is hoping for more extensive change, it’s prolly not going to happen as long as Mike Rizzo is GM.
Niomar Gomez smooth transition from playing career to coaching career . Sweet
Rigo Beltrán . Familiar name .
More intel needed on two new hitting gurus
Old Senators don’t die they just face away
To paraphrase McArthur
Hannon and Alyea
Much history in baseball obits
Beltran might get through to some of the lefties and maybe even Cuevas
Love the Livesay and Wood hires
Would Wood be involved in transitioning of Lile to 2b?
Truly a new gig for Joel Hanrahan and his resume on his winding upward career to a MLB level pitching coach then manager gig
Love the idea of moving Lile to 2nd base.
Sad double-loss of Jim Hannan and Brant Alyea. Hannan and Eddie Brinkman were the first “young kids” signed by the Expansion Senators, as best I remember.
Rico Beltrán 2004 Expo property .
Honestly, i was expecting more. I know hitting was an issue, but so was the pitching and nothing changed there – and the only decent pitching coach we had (Hanrahan) gets “promoted” to rehab pitching coordinator?
Not impressed – especially considering that 2 of the biggest changes were more of the same inbreeding ( Eddie Longosz for De Jon Watson, Fausto Severino for Johnny DiPuglia)
Beltran a true loggie in his day
Hanrahan get to work with Cavalli, Brzykcy, Henry and Cronin. all players carrying high hopes
Habas gets Green, Vaquero and Cruz. lots of bucks invested in that trio
