As Mark Zuckerberg noted on MASN, most of the changes are centered on the hitting coaches, with new faces in the ‘Burgs and Delwyn Young heading up I-95 to Wilmington. Given that the Nats’ affiliates were last or next-to-last at four of the six levels, this is not a surprise.

What is a surprise is how little things changed in the DSL and at AAA. The latter makes sense; AAA is no longer about PD but a place to keep the taxi squad ready to go. But the ’23 D-Nats were D-worst and one would think that would effect some significant changes. Apprarently not, which might signal that we’re going to see another batch of almost-18-yo’s that the Nats hope were overlooked.

In general, most of the changes are, um, minor. Given that two of three major offseason moves in the front office were internal, “next man up” hires – Eddie Longosz for De Jon Watson, Fausto Severino for Johnny DiPuglia – that’s why. If anyone is hoping for more extensive change, it’s prolly not going to happen as long as Mike Rizzo is GM.
