Drew Millas Born: 1/15/98 Ht. 6’2″ Wt. 205 Bats: S Throws: L Career Stats |
Millas reverted to form on offense, splitting time between AA and AAA and improving from an overall OPS of .576 to .833 – most of which is attributable to an outstanding OBP. He’e never hit for power and probably never will, but he makes a lot of contact and doesn’t strike out much. Throw in a 28% CS rate, and that’s a recipe for a solid backup backstop.
Israel Pineda Born: 4/3/00 Ht. 5’11” Wt. 190 Bats: R Throws: R Career Stats |
This is the fifth appearance on the watchlist in seven pro seasons despite a horrific year on offense (.496OPS). Injuries shortened the Vega’s 2023 to just 45 regular-season games, which more than explains his AFL assignment, where he was marginally better (.676 in 15G).
Onix Vega Born: 9/07/98 Ht. 5’10” Wt. 200 Bats: S Throws: R Career Stats |
Vega seems to stick around on the watchlist in tandem with ↑this guy↑ despite subpar offense and Washington historically undervaluing defense. This is unfortunate because Vega’s ticket to The Show might be punched elsewhere with those skills (.997FA, 2E, 5PB in 69G in 2023).
Max Romero Born: 4/29/01 Ht. 6’1″ Wt. 218 Bats: L Throws: R Career Stats |
Drafted in the 9th Rd. in 2022, Romero repeated the level in large part because Washington is relatively deep at catcher. Though he caught the most games for the FredNats, that was only 54 games despite being the best glove by far and not too shabby on offense, either (.849 OPS). Should start ’24 in Wilmington but will probably still have to split time. |
