Rochester 5 Lehigh Valley 4
• Adon 6IP, 6H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 3K, HR
• G. Moreno (BS, 2; W, 5-4) 1⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 0K, 2-1 IR-S
• Noll 3-5, 2R, 3-2B, RBI
• Mazara 2-4, R, BB, 2B, RBI
• Mejia 2-4, 3B, 2RBI
Back-to-back-to-back extra-base hits in the 8th erased a 3-1 deficit and three singles in the 9th put Rochester past Lehigh Valley, 5-4. Joan Adon turned in his third quality start with the bare-minimum three runs allowed on six hits (one HR) and three walks while striking out three. He was rewarded with a no-decision. The win went to Gerson Moreno, though he let in an inherited runner while getting out of the 8th for his second blown save. Jake Noll doubled three times and scored twice while Nomar Mazara reached base three times with a walk, double, and the game-winning RBI single to lead the Red Wings offense. Roster moves: LHP Jose Ferrer recalled to Washington; LHP Tim Cate reassigned from Harrisburg.
Harrisburg 5 Altoona 1
• Parker (W, 5-3) 5IP, 2H, 0R, 4BB, 8K
• Schoff (SV, 1) 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Vega 3-4, 2R
• Valera 2-3, R, BB, RBI, CS
• Hassell 2-4, RBI, SB
The Senators nearly saddled Mitchell Parker with another no-decision, but put up a three-spot in the bottom of the 5th and cruised to a 5-1 win over the Curve. Parker walked four but allowed just two hits over five innings to pick up hist fifth win. He struck out eight. Tyler Schoff threw two scoreless in his AA debut to earn the save. Onix Vega led Harrisburg’s 12-hit parade with three singles and two runs scored, followed by Leonel Valera and Robert Hassell, who both had two safeties and an RBI.
Wilmington 4 Hudson Valley 3
• Caceres 4IP, 5H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 3K, HR, HBP
• M. Perez (W, 3-0) 2IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 4K
• D. Diaz (SV, 1) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 3K
• McKenzie 2-5, R, SB
• House 1-3, 2BB, 2B, 2RBI
Wilmington overcame a 3-0 deficit to score four unanswered runs and take their third straight from Hudson Valley, 4-3. After shifting Jake Bennett twice in the probables released to the Renegades media relations team, Bryan Caceres was reassigned yesterday from Low-A to pitch in Wappinger Falls instead of Fredericksburg. Caceres gave up all three runs on five hits (one HR) and two walks while striking out three over four innings. Marlon Perez, Holden Powell, Dannel Diaz combined for five scoreless innings to earn the win, hold. and save respectively. Jared McKenzie led the age-appropriate batters with two singles in five trips to the plate, followed by Brady House, who walked twice and doubled in two in five PA. The, um, Talk on the Twitters is that skipping Bennett was planned, according to his source. See above for evidence to the contrary, not to mention that Caceres was listed as last night’s starter for the FredNats on both June 28 and June 29.
Fredericksburg 4 Salem 2
• Atencio (W, 3-4) 5IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 2K
• P. González (SV, 2) 4IP, 3H, 2R, 1ER, 0BB, 2K, HBP
• Lile 2-4, 2R, 2-2B (16),
• Boisserie 2-3, SF, 2RBI
The FredNats jumped out to a 2-0 lead early and held off a late charge by the Red Sox for a 4-2 win. Jose Atencio got the start and blanked Salem for five innings with two hits, a walk, and two whiffs. Pedro González finished the game, allowing both Red Sox runs (one earned) on three hits and a Robles to earn his second save. Daylen Lile continues to mash – 13 of his last 18 hits have been for extra bases (H/T to the Frederickburg media relations guys) – with two doubles and two runs scored. Branden Boisserie singled twice and drove in two as the Fredericksburg offense made the most of its limited chances, going 2-for-3 with RISP with four LOB.
FCL Cardinals 2 FCL Nationals 0 – SUSP.
• C. Sanchez 5IP, 5H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 2K, HR
• Baker 2-2, 2B, CS, E
The FCL Nationals were saved by the rain as they had not made the requisite 15 outs to make this game official. Presumably, they’ll make this up when the two teams meet next week.
DSL Giants Black 6 DSL Nationals 4
• E. Rivero (L, 0-3) 4IP, 5H, 5R, 1ER, 1BB, 2K
• R. Ramirez 2IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 2K
• D. Tejeda 1-2, 2B, SB(5)
• Obispo 1-3, R, HR, 2RBI
Four unearned runs in the 2nd were the undoing of the D-Nats in their 18th loss in 19 games. 18-y.o. Enyerber Rivero lost for the third time as he was charged with five runs (one earned) on five hits while issuing a walk and striking out two. 17-y.o. Juan Obsipo’s first pro HR drove in two while Dashyll Tejeda doubled and stole a base to highlight the DSL Nationals offense.
good to see Vega having success on City Isle. he and Millas’ play have eased the pain of a wasted year for Pineda.
I would love to see Atencio back in the regular FredNats rotation. while not overpowering he is fun to watch pitch.
So I guess Greg Ferguson is the head honcho in scouting based on east coast evidenced by guys taken out of his region : Alu Cate and now Schoff.
Great points FREd MD
Opportunity opens the door for two catchers to play / shine
Sometimes a pitcher who paints can be more fun than watching a guy with pure heat
Now is the time of season where the supporting cast pitchers continue to
Improve
Oh Lord a great example as we await Oh Susana day again .
You think Watson would suggest to Rizzo picking up Dodger DFA Ricky Nolasco ??
Latest Senator assigned to staff a college mate to Cate and Ferguson scouting in past in his region ?
Congrats to Jose Ferrer! He’s been on my watchlist for years. Incredible to see a player fully developed by our farm system rise through the levels to make the majors.
With that said, it’s surprising Ferrer got promoted at all. He’s been struggling in AAA. His previously stellar command disappeared in Rochester, where in May he ended up walking 12 batters in 14 IP. To his credit, he turned things around in June, and he began missing bats again. He struck out 14 in 12.1 IP and only 3 BB. I’d have expected the Nats to wait and see if he could keep that up a bit longer, but it’s nice to see him get a quick bump. He surely can’t be any worse than the players he’s replacing.
Somebody had to take Corbin’s place while he was on bereavement… so I guess you’re right, though I don’t think he’ll start.
Obispo’s HR for the DSL Nats was the first HR for the entire team this season. The team’s slugging percentage has skyrocketed to .235.
After an awful start to the season, Parker has settled down, and has a 2.10 ERA over his past 6 starts. The walks are still high (14 in 30 IP), but he’s always been pretty good at limiting hits (23 hits allowed) to keep his WHIP at a manageable level (1.23)
And Parker faced a Curve / Buc affiliate which has raked Sens all year and last
Call me cock eyed optimist
Stone Garrett with his game Vs Phil’s might be a start to bump his BA up and maybe trade bait for ???

Back to Alvarez . Perhaps with all the swing lefties on the DL Alvarez s rubber arm is still highly appreciated in various roles in Wilmington .
Who could fill his role from FRED ?
Too soon for Franklin Marquez to bump up to Blue Rocks ?
Marquez might be the luckiest pitcher in baseball. His WHIP is 1.62. He walked 5 batters the other night. Yet he somehow still has an ERA of 0.00.
