Rain claimed Game Two between the Red Wings and The RailRiders. They’ll make it up this afternoon with a doubleheader. Roster moves: IF Jordy Barley reassigned from Wilmington; IF Erick Mejia placed on the 7-Day I.L.

Alex Troop’s return from being hidden for roster purposes the Development list was a rocky one that saw him knocked from the box and ejected in the second inning as Erie took another one from Harrisburg, 9-5. The 26-y.o. southpaw was strafed for five runs on five hits and two walks over an inning and a 2/3rds to suffer his fifth loss of ’23. The Senators made the most of their five hits and seven walks, highlighted by Trey Lipscomb’s two-run HR in the 2nd and James Wood’s two-run single in the 8th. Roster moves: LHP Alex Troop reinstated from Development List; LHP Dustin Saenz placed on the Development List.

Andry Lara’s struggles continue as the 20-y.o. was boiled by the BlueClaws for seven runs in a 16-5 smackdown. Lara gave up seven hits (one HR), one Robles, and two walks over four-plus innings. He struck out two while taking his fifth loss. Tyler Yankosky was the sole Wilmington reliever to keep Jersey Shore off the board with two scoreless innings. T.J. White singled three times and scored one while Matt Suggs singled, doubled, and scored twice to lead the Blue Rocks offense. Roster moves: OF Yasel Antuna activated from the Development List.

Fredericksburg outhit Myrtle Beach, 5-4 but two bad throws did them in for a 1-0 loss. Striking out 15 times didn’t help, either. Bryan Caceres walked four but gave up just two hits over five shutout innings. The Pelicans got a one-out walk and put the runner in motion for a hit-and-run. Johnathan Thomas charged and came up throwing but the throw sailed such that the 5’11” (maybe) Paul Witt had to jump, land, and apply the tag. The call didn’t go the way of the FredNats. Fredericksburg pulled the infield in and got a tapper to first but Roismar Quintana’s throw was in the dirt, enabling the lone run to score. Pedro González took the loss, his second. Zion Pettigrew led the FredNats’ hit column with two singles. Roster moves: RHP Bryan Sanchez placed on the 7-Day I.L.

The F-Nats scored the decisive run just as you might expect from a game in the complexes: a walk, a hit-by-pitch, a sacrifice and a wild pitch. The rally made a winner out of Niomar Gomez’s scoreless top of the 7th on Tuesday. Moises Diaz then tossed two scoreless for the save.

In the regularly scheduled game, the FCL Mets shut out the FCL Nationals, 4-0 on four hits. 24-y.o. Erik Tolman made his second start and was dinged for two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out four. 22-y.o. Blake Klassen singled twice in three trips to the plate while 19-y.o.’s Brenner Cox and Everett Cooper both added a single.

        1. Yesterday’s game notes had Rutledge going on Friday. Today’s has Henry pitching tomorrow.

  2. good test for Henry tonight vs the top hitting team in the Eastern League. five innings would be nice.

    TJ White snaps an 0-27 with three hits. I bet he enjoyed a good nights sleep.

Richie Martin is currently the only player capable of playing SS in Rochester, and he went MIA in Rochester’s last game when Mejia got injured, leading me to believe he’s dealing with some nagging injury. Barley’s promotion is not a promotion, but actually more of a punishment. He’s quickly played himself out of his prospect status, and this move all but confirms it. You don’t typically jerk around real prospects like this.

  4. LTFT, now I’m worried about Bennett. It’s now been 9 days since his last appearance, which is longer than he’s ever gone between starts.

    1. They have done this with Cavalli and Rutledge (among others). They will give a guy about a ten day break and then bring him back. I would not worry yet.

  5. What’s with these recent “Developmental List” adds?

    If I remember correctly in the past, it’s been used for guys massively struggling. However, I’m now realizing Antuna’s absence wasn’t on the DL. His disappearance was via “temporarily inactive list”.

    Troop’s DL’ing a week back was strange. He hasn’t been great, but was throwing solidly. He then disappeared for 8 days, and is now back. And now Dustin Saenz gets the same treatment. He too hasn’t been great since his promotion, but one game isn’t enough to get worried about.

    Is the DL used for temporary leaves of absence? Like if a player has a sick family member or issue to tend to, this is where you stash him? Or it it something else?

    1. the temporary inactive list is used for your questions in the last paragraph. the player can return after three days.

      the development list carries a one week minimum stay and is basically a roster time out. still active, not injured but maybe they work on something new at the training facility. at least they don’t have to lie and say they’re hurt

This is why I have more posts than comments… since I don’t go to games nightly anymore I can’t comment on whether or not a guy on the DL is still with the team or not, but I strongly suspect that there’s no requirement as to where the development takes place (“Club-approved facility, according to this so the odds of a guy actually leaving the team is probably nil or none.

      A friend of mine has a son who recently has shoulder surgery now he’s being diagnosed with frozen shoulder
      Could that be a brucitis effect in shoulder post surgery ?

    2. I was at the Harrisburg games on Sunday and last night, and it seemed like he was getting on base with every at-bat.

      Semi-related, the Senators updated the kinds of stats they show on the video board. They now show OBP and OPS along with the traditional stats.

      1. Is Vega as multi talented as Kurt Suzuki ? Perhaps future coaching skills like Kurt ?

  7. Onix Vega hits the ball hard almost every at bat. Troop and Beck were vehemently disagreeing with the home plate umpire. Both were yelling at him after pitches were called balls.
