Rochester vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre – PPD
Rain sidetracked Game Two between the Red Wings and the RailRiders. They’ll shoot to make it up with a doubleheader tonight.
Roster moves:
• RHP Jake Irvin recalled to Washington
• UT Ildemaro Vargas MLB rehab ended
• RHP Cory Abbott, IF Jeter Downs optioned from Washington
• RHP Jose Urena assigned from Washington (MLFA).
Harrisburg 4 New Hampshire 0
• Rutledge (W, 2-1) 6IP, 4H, 0R, 2BB, 7K
• C. Romero 2IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 0K
• Hassell 2-4, 2B, SF, 2RBI
• Millas 1-2, R, 2BB
• 1-10 RISP; 6 LOB
Three Harrisburg pitchers combined to shut out New Hampshire, 4-0 on four hits. Jackson Rutledge went the first six and gave up all four Fisher Cats’ singles while issuing two walks and striking out seven. Carlos Romero went the next two and gave up a walk but no hits or whiffs. Amos Willingham worked around an error to preserve the shutout. Robert Hassell drove in one run with a sac fly and another with an RBI single as he accounted for two of the five Sens hits while Drew Millas reached base with a single and two walks and Will Frizzell drew three walks to lead the offense.
Hudson Valley 9 Wilmington 4
• Alvarez 5IP, 5H, 2R, 1ER, 1BB, 2K, WP, PO @ 1B
• Ale. Hernandez (L, 0-1) 1+ IP, 6H, 7R, 7ER, 1BB, 0K, HBP, WP
• Barley 2-2, R, 2B, 2BB, 2SB (5,6)
• Lipscomb 2-4, RBI
• 2-13 RISP; 9 LOB
The Blue Rocks rallied for two in the top of the 7th to take a 4-3 lead, but the Renegades had it made in the bottom of the 7th and retrieved a six-run bounty for a 9-4 win. Wilmington starter Andrew Alvarez turned in five innings of two-run ball on five hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Alemao Hernandez took the loss, wobbling through the 6th for a run on two hits, then putting the first six batters he faced in the 7th on base before Mario Lisson figured out he wasn’t pitching well. Jordy Barley reached base four times with a single, a double, and two walks while Trey Lipscomb singled twice and drove in a run to pace the Blue Rocks’ eight-hit, five-walk attack.
Down East 15 Fredericksburg 9
• Susana (L, 0-2) 2+ IP, 1H, 4R, 4ER, 4BB, 3K, HBP, WP, 61-33 PIT-K
• Lord ⅔ IP, 4H, 6R, 6ER, 2BB, 1K, HR, 36-19 PIT-K
• Abreu 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K, 21-13 PIT-K
• Lawson 2-3, 2R, BB
• Green 2-3, BB, SF, 2RBI
• Stehly 1-3, R, BB, RBI
For the second time in four starts, Jarlin Susana did not make it through three innings while the Fredericksburg bullpen threw in-game BP as Down East outslugged Fredericksburg, 15-9. Susana, who was skipped in the rotation last week, walked four, struck out three, and hit a batter over two-plus innings. It was his second loss of the season. The Wood Ducks’ throwers weren’t much more effective as they walked ten and gave up nine hits. The FredNats attack was led by Cortland Lawson and Elijah Green, who both reached base three times with two singles and a walk, with Lawson scoring two and Green driving in two.
Oh Susana! (Sorry, couldn’t resist.) We’re certainly crying over the guy who’s supposed to be our top pitching prospect. He’s either ailing or isn’t as good as advertised. Neither option is good.
Looks like a solid effort from Rutledge. He allowed a number of base runners but kept the slate clean.
Good to see Lipscomb starting to hit this week. There are a good number of others who need to find some of that magic. His college teammate, Reston native Cortland Lawson has been hitting as well and could develop into some nice infield depth for the organization.
Also good to see Hassell show up fully “rehabbed” and hitting at AA.
Oh Susana
Followed by Good , Lord ! Without seeing who followed in the bullpen just by seing the football score
This is putting good vibes out on Urens who six years ago was amazing
Ureba age 31 now sane age as Pasquel Perez was when resurrected by Buck Rodgers ( Larry Bearnarth ) by Expos in 1988 when Dave Martinez was OF on club . Perez went 12-8 .
Davey could use that in rotation .
Luke remind us again what is the
Reserve list Jose Urena is on ?
That’s the “master” list of minor leaguers, of which teams are now limited to 180 during the season (190 in the offseason). Basically it means he’s in the system but not assigned to any team (yet).
Any word on why Trey Harris was added to the developmental list? He was batting .333/.412/.489, and it’s not like we’re stocked with upper-level talent at the moment…
Give .200 BA Mighty Casey PT ??
Good luck to Jose Urena.
The crooked numbers for A Rod last night Vs Down East Ducks made me wish for Fonzi .
No idea. From what I can tell the list is being used much like the old “Disabled” List (place to stash a guy for a number of reasons, including but not limited to injuries), minus the time constraint.
Looking at arms. Here’s the ERA leaders in the system. Kyle Luckham was a 15th round draft pick last year. He has 3 BB and 22K in 15 IP. It’s good to see Bennett and Rutledge moving forward.
(15 IP minimum)
1. Luckham WMT 1.80
2. Bennett FBG 2.53
3. Rutledge HRB 3.58
4. Alvarez WMT 3.66
5. Saenz WMT 3.86
Special mention:
N. Pogue WMT 0.00 (13.2 IP)
M. Pena HRB 0.84 (10.2 IP)
T. Schoff WMT 1.54 (11.2 IP)
Gerardo Carrillo roster status changed from 7-day IL to “Injured – Full Season”
Our 2021 deadline haul:
WAS: Ruiz, Gray, L. Thomas, Thompson, Adams
HRB: Casey, Millas, Guasch (IL)
WMT: Barley
60-day: Aldo Ramirez
Out for Season: Shuman, Carrillo
Thanks Nattering.
Lara changed his diet ? Really ?
Doubt it
