Adios Dean Weaver
Coming in a close second for BAD at Potomac is the 12 games that have been postponed this season.
I don’t know… getting national exposure for this situation might just be worse. Now, excuse me while I go cut some holes out of a paper bag…
I wonder if the PNats are still planning on the “Scout Night’ promotion for Saturday? One more way to lay waste to the outfield.
If you count the complete series Potomac lost due to the field against Frederick there have been 14 rainouts. Thats 20% of the home schedule. There have been more rainouts since they installed the new drainage system than any of the previous years without the system. Also did you notice that while the start time of the game was being discussed on the field the P-Nats crack gound crew watered the infield 3 times. The problem is too much water and you continue to water, not too bright.
They can’t play ball there but at least they could grow rice.
G,B,I is possibly my favorite part of the blog
Off topic, but the announcment of some more signings got me to thinking abouth Matthew Purke. What is the status with him arm and is he playing ball anywhere this summer? Someone in June thought he might be in the Cape Cod League but he is not on any roster. If his arm is good, will the NATS pay to entice him to sign (3-5 mil)? He turned down 5 mil from Rangers in ’09.
Hardly off-topic… I believe he’s not pitching anywhere, especially since he was spotted schmoozing with Rizzo last week by both Zuckerman and Comak.
That means he’s not a client of Boras; Boras thinks there’s nothing more horrible than a draft pick actually meeting his future employers before signing.
He may be waffling on going back to school. If the team thinks highly enough of him, maybe they offer a modified ‘McGeary’ – 2nd round money, plus an agreement/funding to let him finish school, but he gets a professional exam of his shoulder/elbow from a specialist before ink goes to paper.
Thanks Sue. I am not on twitter and no not tweet (in all senses of the word). It appears that the young lad is listening and that is arm is sound (else why the attention for ML and MR).
Have prospect news, gang.
Keith Law has his mid-season Top 50 out and the are 2 Nats there.
He says upfront that he rates highly by ceiling and there was a bit of a surprise.
Guess who is #1 and A.J. Cole is #36.He says Cole did the right thing by signing as he is already twice the pitcher he was in High School.
An Interesting Draft Factoid – the Nats have signed 22 players, including ALL 16 College Seniors they picked. The bonus savings on all those seniors should have you optimistic about signing Purke, et. al.
One would hope. Drafting all them Seniors leaves my milk curdled.
Vladi: I’d be more concerned if their top-5 were all college seniors, but Rizzo didn’t take a Sr. until the 6th round this year. Drafting signable players & grabbing UFA’s after the draft just assures that the Org. is fielding full teams in time to start the ss-A & rookie level teams, imo.
