The Red Wings gambled on getting a whiff, a popup, or a double-play after the Mets bunted over the free runner in the 10th and they issued back-to-back IBBs to load the bases. Instead, Syracuse got a sac fly and walked off Rochester, 2-1, and hand Francisco Perez his third loss. Joan Adon got the start and worked around six baserunners over five scoreless innings, striking out six. The Mets broke up the Star Trek convention on the [no free advertising] stadium scoreboard with a run in the 6th, which the Red Wings got back in the 9th on a two-out double by Jake Alu followed by a single by Nick Banks. Rochester ran itself out of the 10th when Donovan Casey tried to score from second on a wild pitch strikeout, which may have been a pretty good gamble as Syracuse’s Nick Meyer had to beat Casey to the plate from about 30′ from home plate (third base side) and apply the tag while taking the return throw from first base. The Red Wings had seven hits total, led by Alu with two doubles, and left on five.

Three straight hits and an error led to the tying and winning runs scoring in the top of the 8th as Akron edged Harrisburg 3-2. The Dr. Jeckyll version of Ronald Herrera showed up to pitch, turning in his ninth quality start with six innings of one-run ball on four this, no walks, and eight K’s. Garvin Alston took the loss, striking out one and hitting a batter in the 7th before giving up the two runs and three hits in the 8th. Robert Hassell reached base four time with a walk, two singles, and a double while Drew Millas singled twice and drove in one to lead the Senators’ offense.

The Renegades shut out the Blue Rocks, 8-0, on three hits. Rodney Theophile got the start and was knocked for four runs on six hits, two walks, and a Victor Robles over four innings. He struck out four. Paul Witt and Justin Connell both had singles while Leandro Emiliani had Wilmington’s sole extra-base hit, a double to lead off the 5th where he stayed put as Wilmington grounded out twice to shortstop and once to third base.

The FredNats bats and bullpen continue to cover for spotty starting pitching as they dug out of 5-0 after one to rally for a 9-7 win – their fifth straight. Bryan Caceres did what Bryan Caceres does: give up a lot of runs (5) but eat a lot of innings (6). He survived a five-run 1st and gave the Fredericksburg offense the chance to catch up, which it did with a three-run 6th, then tied it again with a two in the 8th, and pulled ahead with another two-spot in the 9th. Every starter had a hit, led by Jared McKenzie with three while Will Frizzell drove in three and T.J. White hit his 11th HR. The win went to Chance Huff with a scoreless 8th while Riggs Threadgill worked around a walk in the 9th for the save, his ninth.

    Disappointing this season that neither Mendez or Strohs has elevated to AA but Strohs May be seeing his ceiling at A plus more than Mendez .
    FRED pitching in playoff run will br all hands on deck as usual

    1. I ran into a UT Vol alum it’s who follows Vol baseball and he agreed with me on the acessment that Lipscomb just didn’t steal bases at UT since he played for “ an Earl Weaver type manager “.

  2. Seems really smart that Armando Cruz spends a couple of weeks at Fredericksburg. He gets a chance to see what his 2013 will look like and get use to playing at night in front of real crowds.

    Jared McKenzie, oh my. I think we may not know what we have until next year but in the meantime he is just crushing Low A pitching.
    Now if James Wood can make it back to the field before the playoffs start.

    Robert Hassell sure is getting his sea legs at AA. Too bad the season is about to end. We will have a lot to look forward to next year.

    1. Cruz did not look over-matched at the plate, Young ran on one of his ABs and if it was a hit and run he hit it to the right side. he will be fun to watch full time in ’23

  3. Adon’s last two outings 10.1 IP, 5H, 9K, 17-9 GB/FB. all good but 6BBs is still too many. keep working you man, it might be in there

    fairly significant difference in favor of Cody but Riggs is the closer. I went back to watch a game they both pitched and Riggs hit 94, Cody 91. Riggs was also drafted while Cody was a FA signing and is almost exactly a year older. if they move up the system together we may get a look at what the organization sees in them, we can all read the stats.

    Hassell has taken to wearing glasses the last two games at least. all three of his hits last night were to left and not exactly line drives. looks like he’s still working on some things.

    1. Hence the adjustment for Hassell – switching to glasses .
      After having contact lenses then Lasic the back to glasses with readers … I can feel his challenges ..

  4. Frizzell in Sept. thus far: .526/.538/.842. He’s like that kid in Little League who is already 6’2″ and shaving.

  5. With Adon, it will be interesting to see whether the Nats totally commit to the young arms with the big club next year or bring back some guys like Espino and Sanchez. You would think that they’re hoping that Gray, Gore, Cavalli, and Adon can be in the rotation. Corbin is under contract for two more years, and of course Stras may or may not ever reappear. One would think that they will cut ties with Ross since he hasn’t made it back. Then there’s Fedde, who could be non-tendered, but they seem to struggle with being willing to pull that plug.

    1. I agree on Gray, Gore and Cavalli. not sure they see Adon as MLB material just yet. his last promotion was due to desperation not development.

      of course Gore has to be proven to be healthy, which is why I agree to get him onto action now, if a procedure is needed better now than later.

      Corbin hopefully returns to keep them in games and eat innings at the very least. no idea on Fedde’s future.

  6. With Keibert Ruiz going to the IL, Nats calling up Israel Pineda. Very quick rise for the Nats catching prospect as he started the year at high A Wilmington.

    1. Good luck to Pineda! He was going to be a certain addition to the 40-man anyway. And he might as well get a look considering how much Barrera has struggled.

  7. I agree with questions about Adon’s readiness for the majors. I mention him because there’s just not much else in the queue in the upper minors right now in the way of starting pitching, if we assume that Cavalli is pretty much ready and that Henry will be out for next season.

    1. not much in the way of #1-3 starters for sure. but in Abbott, T Romero and Adon that’s 60% of the AAA rotation that still can legitimately be considered prospects, if not high prospects. no telling where S Romero fits in.

      in an interview a month ago Henry says he’s told he’ll be back at the end of spring training. it’s a shorter recovery than TJ albeit with more uncertainty in the prospect for success

      1. Dr. Fred, I sure hope you’re right. TOS surgery has so far been a career ender for most. Cole Henry was so good when healthy.

        1. Mark L that’s why you draft 15 some arms a sumef in draft then sign all the intl kids off the glove
          – toss them in the hopper and find 2-4
