Rochester answered an eight-run Syracuse third with a five-run 4th and then added five more down the stretch to take this one, 15-8. Starter Patrick Murphy bore the brunt of the beating by the Mets, giving up six runs on five hits and three walks over two and 2/3rds innings. The win went to Luis Avilán with four outs in the middle innings with two hits and a walk allowed. Jake Alu led the 13-hit parade with a single, two homers (nos. five and six), and five RBI, followed by Nick Banks with a single, walk, and HR #9.
Roster moves: RHP Juan Minaya assigned from Washingto (MLFA, released by Minnesota on 9/4).

Darren Baker’s two-run double in the bottom of the 10th turned a would-be 5-4 loss into a 6-5 walkoff win for the Senators. Alex Troop kept the ball in the yard for the first time in four starts, with two runs let in on four hits and four walks over five and 2/3rds innings. Jose Ferrer continues to struggle at AA, allowing an inherited runner to score in the 7th to saddle Andrew Lee with a blown save, and then doing it for himself with a leadoff HR in the 8th. Omar Meregildo drove in the first three runs with his 6th AA HR (21st overall) and a sac fly. Baker also doubled in the 7th and scored on a wild pitch. Harrisburg drew nine walks but Baker’s gamewinner was just the third hit in 14 RISP chances.

Wilmington pushed across an unearned run in the 1st and for six innings it looked like it might just hold up. Mitchell Parker went the first four and put on seven baserunners while fanning five. Carlos Romero put up two goose eggs with one hit and four whiffs. Alas, Orlando Ribalta couldn’t keep the string of zeroes atop the Frawley stadium scoreboard going as he was dinged for all three Hudson Valley runs in the 7th. Viandel Peña led off the 9th with his second single (third overall) but was erased by a double play. Leandro Emiliani, who led off the 7th with a single, grounded out to end the game.

The FredNats held off a late charge by the S-Sox as they took their fourth straight, 10-8. Jarlin Susana struck out six over the first four innings, giving up one run on one hit (not a HR) and one walk. Tyler Schoff was credited with the win despite coughing up three runs over two innings. Brendan Collins came on with two out in the 8th and a runner on first and got a flyout to end the Salem rally, then set the side down in order in the 9th for his first save. Branden Bosserie singled, homered, and drove in three while Jared McKenzie singled, doubled, scored twice, drove in two, stole a base, and cut down a runner at 3rd to lead the Fredericksburg offense.

The developmental list can cover various reasons including helping the numbers game on the pitching staff..
Greenhill had his moments out of the Fred pen .
Greenhill certainly has the numbers you look for, got two straight saves in early August then not another opportunity the rest of the year. hard to tell what they see in him
Lots of good news today.
First, Nattering asked about Israel Pineda and his defense. Jeff gave an opinion without any thinking so let’s talk about it. I had the numbers but can’t find it but he has been way above average with the running game. His overall defensive metrics are above average and he is only 22 years old at AAA which is very impressive. He spent most of his time at AA and his OPS there was .868.

with the top prospect waiting on deck, Dusty’s kid said chill dude, this game’s over right here. good moment for him. he reminds me of another major leaguers son with the constant smile he wears. now I seriously doubt he’ll hit 630 dingers in the show but he could get there.
pretty tidy outing for Susana, came out throwing mostly fastballs and for strikes, 5 of 6 Ks in first two innings. I’d be interested in seeing the pitch count because it seemed like he threw more of the rest of his arsenal at them for the next three. in any event not one hard hit ball. this kid’s legit.
Darren Baker will play in MLB. Not saying he will ever be a regular (he probably won’t), but he will at least have a cup of coffee in the majors.
Curious to know others thoughts on Jake Alu.
Starting today, if you had to pick between Carter Kieboom or Jake Alu to make an impact at the MLB level, who would you take?
the classic high ceiling vs low floor debate.
Kieboom, high talent seemingly low confidence. I doubt he could succeed as anything other than an everyday player. Alu seems to bring every bit of what he has got every day. he could easily be a utility option off the bench.
I’d consider succeeding at either role as having an impact. I’m not a betting man but I’d have to take Alu if push came to shove.
Being a 24th round pick Alu had to produce right away or he was gone. He certainly makes everything he has out of his ability. It will be a real celebration when he makes the show.
I’m a high ceiling guy. So it is easily Kieboom for me. I haven’t given up hope on him yet as developing into something.
Alu on the other hand is what it is. It is solid but if you compare his numbers to Kieboom’s before he was called up they don’t compare.
Kieboom could take a walk in the minors. Showed a good approach and some power when he was on.
