The Red Wings battled back from a 4-0 deficit to pull within one at 5-4 before the Indians dropped an eight-spot in the 4th and cruised to a 14-4 win. Joan Adon didn’t make it to the 4th inning for the third straight start, giving up five runs on six hits and three walks over three innings. He was charged with his second AAA loss. Andrew Stevenson, Luis García, and Jake Alu each went 2-for-4 to lead the Rochester offense.

All the Sens runs came on the home run in a 5-2 Harrisburg win over Erie. Seth Romero returned to City Isle noticeably lighter on both the radar gun and around the middle but struck out five of seven batters faced with some nifty breaking balls. He threw 37 pitches, 23 for strikes over two innings. Gerardo Carrillo gave up a run on a walk followed by a triple to blow the 2-1 lead in the top of the 6th. He was taken off the hook with Wilson Garcia’s Earl Weaver special (#18) in the bottom of the 6th. Bryan Gonzalez and Zach Brzykcy combined for three scoreless to close it out, earning the hold and the save respectively. Andrew Young got the party started with a two-run HR (#9) in the 1st.
Roster moves: LHP Garvin Alston promoted from Wilmington; RHP Gerardo Carrillo returned from MiLB Rehab, activated from 7-Day I.L.; RHP Edgar García placed on Developmental List; RHP Danny Dopico released.

The Blue Rocks fell two outs shy of notching their eighth shutout but settled for a 3-1 win over the IronBirds. Lucas Knowles pitched into the 7th for the first in his career, allowing just three hits, no walks, and fanning five. Amos Willingham stranded two while finishing the 7th then gave way with two out in the 8th to Jose Ferrer, who lost the shutout on a solo HR in the 9th. Knowles picked up his 7th win, Willingham got his 5th hold, and Ferrer was credited with his 9th A+ save. Justin Connell led the hit column with two singles and a double while Drew Millas drove in two with a 3rd-inning single and added a double in the 6th, plated by Cody Wilson.
Roster moves: LHP Ike Schlabach reassigned from Fredericksburg for MiLB Rehab.

• Arruda 1-3, R, BB, HR, RBI, SB
• McKenzie 1-4, 2B, 2SB
A three-run 9th by the Wood Ducks put the game out of reach as Down East tripled up Fredericksburg, 6-2. Bryan Caceres, who leads the Nats minors in IP with 106⅓, turned in another five with three runs allowed on five hits (two HR) and three walks while striking out three. He would lose his eighth game. J.T. Arruda broke up the shutout bid with a solo shot in the 8th while Christopher De La Cruz drew a bases-loaded walk in the 9th to account for the two FredNats, as they struggled to an 0-for-9 mark with RISP and left on eight baserunners.

Adon looks broken. It’s not like he was ever particularly good (career 4.47 ERA), which made his rise all the more perplexing, but he’s somehow been worse in AAA than he was in DC. I think he’d benefit from an early winter break…
If Seth Romero could turn into even a below average major leaguer, I’d consider that a huge win, given his history.
Agree Will especially at his low signing price tag
Looks like Luckham being groomed to start next season in FRED if all goes according to plan .
F Kilomet has actually had a better year than Adon
The moon new under Virgo hit you like a ton of bricks , Luke
Roberta Flack sing it : “ Kilome softly with his —career Swan —- song !!!!!!
Luke was spot on mentioning the new look sported by Romero, we may never know what he’s been doing for the last few months but he now looks the part of a ballplayer. We can only hope he has found the right path, if for his own sake if not for the Nats.
While he didn’t look overpowering he got a lot of swing and miss.
Cue that old John Cougar Mellencamp song “ I think I’m in love “? A good woman and a child shifts the compass within ?
Newsflash Nats release moron and two others from dSL ..
Here’s my account of Seth Romero from the island. He went to a full count on the first two batters he faced and another one in the 2nd inning. His fastball topped out at 89 and his change up was 80. I think he threw more change ups than fastballs. It was effective as Erie batters constantly chased it.
Teel also had a nice outing and Young and Garcia went deep for the 2nd game in a row.
Nice year for W Garcia on Gilligans Island this year if only he is an org vet
Tell had a nice thing going in AAA as an opener until they started jerking him around. not sure he throws hard enough but he knows how to pitch.
Teel of course
Wow, that’s really disappointing to hear. Romero was throwing high 90s, and sitting in the mid 90s when he was drafted. Obviously that was a looooong time ago (5 years ago!!) with a lot of injuries and other… events in between, but I just don’t think a pitcher topping out in the 80s stands much of a chance anymore. 226 players have thrown more than 50 IP in the majors this year. Only 10 of them averaged less than 89 MPH (and most of them are old, seasoned vets closer to 40 than 30, like Adam Wainwright, Corey Kluber, Rich Hill and Dallas Keuchel).
Hopefully, he still needs to keep building up his arm strength, but it’s not encouraging.
Thanks LM.
Luke I had you looking at Cacares pitching log lately so switching to Andry Lara
21 st start tonight barring rain . 86 IP but with a tick more consistently he’d be neck and neck with BC in IPs . 14-16 IP is just two superb QS.
Understand why many have given up on Romero, but he is a lefty with arm talent. That is a profile that evokes lots of patience from MLB teams.
Yes, I believe Romero was said to “touch 97” when he was drafted, but he was only touching about 92 during his very brief MLB cameo in 2020. All we can to is hope for something (anything) from him, but throwing 89 isn’t encouraging. At least he was crafty enough to get guys out, though.
I’ve never, ever understood the over-push of Adon. The organization has had a long infatuation with him. Yes, he fills out a uniform very well, and he throws reasonably hard. But as Will notes, his numbers have never, ever supported the promotions he has received. He was mediocre at the A+ level last year, then rushed to the majors. I sure hope someone can salvage him, as there does seem to be talent there, but I have no idea what they think they were doing with him.
On a positive note, Lucas Knowles may be the best under-the-radar story of the year. He’s a bit “old for the level,” so real judgment can be reserved for next season at AA, but there’s a lot to like with what he’s doing in his transition to starting.
I admit having to look up Garvin Alston. He’s only 25 and was traded to the Nats in the spring. Does anyone know who was traded for him?
Oh the horror! Zach Brzykcy faced 6 batters and walked one of them. His ERA at AA is now 1.79.
Cash for Alston from Chisox
Garvin Allston’s father (garvin Sr.) was twins pitching coach and had cup of coffee with Rockies as a player. Now Sacramento pitching coach
