The Bisons would get all they would get (and all they would need) in their three-run 1st as they shut out Red Wings, 3-0, on four hits. Josh Rogers gave up his obligatory HR—#9 in the minors, #15 overall this season—to plate the first two runs and gave up the third, unearned run on a two-out single. He would follow with four scoreless innings, but it would be moot as the Rochester offense couldn’t cash in on multiple walks early. They were no-hit until the 4th when Joey Meneses singled with one out. Andrew Stevenson, Josh Palacios, and Donovan Casey rounded out the hit column.

The Dr. Jekyll version of Ronald Herrera came to the mound last night and turned in his fifth quality start in a 7-5 Harrisburg win over Altoona. Herrera gave up two solo HRs and four hits total over six innings while winning his fourth game. He walked one and struck out six. Meanwhile, the Sens offense scored in six of eight “ups,” led by recently promoted Omar Meregildo with three hits, two RBI, and a HR and returnee from the I.L. Rudy Martin, who singled, doubled, and scored a run.

The Blue Rocks ‘pen couldn’t hold a 5-1 lead, but the offense delivered the gamewinner in classic small-ball fashion for a 6-5 win in 10 innings. Mitchell Parker turned in his second quality start with one unearned run on two hits and two walks while striking out six and hitting a batter. Alas, it would be his fourth no-decision in the eight times he’s been eligible for a “W.” Wilmington busted out for four in the 1st and added another in the 6th before Carlos Romero and Jose Ferrer coughed up four runs in the 8th and 9th innings. In the 10th, Jeremy De La Rosa sacrificed the free runner to 3rd and José Sánchez plated him with a single for the walk-off win.

Fredericksburg battled back from a 4-1 deficit to take a 5-4 lead but was forced into extras where they took their seventh straight game from Delmarva, 8-6 in 10 innings. FredNats starter Mason Denaburg hit a wall in the 4th inning, loading the bases on two singles and a walk with nobody out, then walking in run before he was lifted. He would finish with two runs allowed on four hits and two walks over three-plus innings. Sammy Infante got the party in the 8th with his 16th HR to start a four-run rally. Tyler Schoff gave it right back with a pair of one-out singles and a sac fly before settling down and working around a walk in the 9th. Viandel Peña’s two-run highlighted the FredNats’ three-run 10th. Riggs Threadgill let in the free runner while setting the side down in order for the save, which also gave Schoff the (dreaded) blown-save-win.

Three F-Nats pitchers combined to shut out the F-Marlins, 7-0, on five hits. Johan Otanez won for the third time as he went the first five frames, allowing three hits, one walk, one balk, one Victor Robles, and one wild pitch. He struck out six. Franklin Marquez added three more goose eggs for the hold, his first. The F-Nats took advantage of six walks, an error, and a balk to score seven times on six hits, with Jeisel Acosta the only batter to have multiple hits.
DSL Nationals 4 DSL Brewers 2 3

The D-Nats loaded the bases without a hit, then unloaded them with a three-run triple off the bat of Dawry Martinez for a 4-3 walk-off win over the D-Brewers 2. Doimil Perez got the start and tossed three scoreless and hitless innings with one walk and four whiffs. Bryan Polanco got the “W” with three and 2/3rds innings pitched, no runs (but one inherited runner) on two hits, and a walk while fanning three. Martinez also doubled and scored a run while Miguel Fernandez reached base three times with two singles and a walk and scored the game-winning run.
A lot of pitching to like last night.
Mitchell Parker now has an ERA of 1.73 and a WHIP of 1.27.
Oh the horrors! Zach Brzykcy allowed 2 hits and a walk. His WHIP has skyrocketed to 0.98 with an ERA of 1.05 at Harrisburg. So much for that tough transition to AA.
Speaking of tough transitions Omar Meregildo’s OPS at Harrisburg is 2.250.
On the down side, however, Brzykcy let in his 3 inherited runners with a bases clearing double. I do like his stuff as a closer. It was nice to see some offense on the island last night.

The bulllpens on the farm are showing some new names stepping forward as the DL lists show some familiar names inactive from last year .

I like that they’re letting him close. wish they’d slide Cronin into that role in AAA.
Parker’s high wire balancing act is truly a sight to behold! 549 minor league pitchers have started at least 10 games. Parker’s 1.73 ERA is 8th best. His BB/9 is 6.38. That’s the 536th best rate in the minors! (13th worst). His FIP of 3.92 is 158th best. His ERA-FIP (basically a way to measure how lucky a player is) is -2.19, which is the third luckiest rate in all of the minors.
I don’t know how long Parker can sustain this, but he’s really a Jekyll/Hyde pitcher. He only walked 2 batters in 6 IP, which is perfectly fine, but he’s almost certain to go 2 innings next start, walk 5, and somehow avoid any earned runs.
One game, and Frizzell is already outhitting Boissiere. Not really sure why the Nats are so infatuated with Boissiere. Same for Meregildo, who really seized the day! I can’t help but wondering if this could have happened in May and not late July, but at least both players finally got their much deserved promotions!
Any updates on Brady House and Cole Henry? Are they going to be yet another two of those minor injuries that ends up only taking surgery and 9 months to recover from?
The Nats infatuation with Boissiere comes him being a 3rd round pick who’s being outhit by 5th rounder T.J. White.
I read somewhere that Brady House is out until at least mid-August.
