Rochester briefly led this one twice – 1-0 and 2-1 – until a two-run HR in the 7th put Syracuse up by the eventual final score, 3-2. Logan Verrett pitched into the 6th for fourth time in 11 starts. He gave up a run on four hits and one walks while fanning six over five and 2/3rds innings. Sam Clay served up the gamewinner in the 7th after getting the last out in the 6th. Andrew Stevenson singled twice, scored a run, and stole base #18 to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Cole Freeman doubled and scored the other run. The Red Wings tallied eight hits and two walks total for the night.

A five-run meltdown in the 8th turned a might-have-been 5-4 win into a 9-5 loss for the Senators. Alex Troop wobbled through five innings, giving up four runs on five hits, including a three-run HR, and two walks. He struck out six. Reid Schaller retired just one of six batters faced and all five that reached base (two hits, three walks) came around to score. Harrisburg was shut out the through the first five before Wilson Garcia smacked his team-leading 10th HR in the 6th. Harrisburg added two more in the 7th on a two-run triple by Jake Alu and two more in the 8th on two-run HR by Andrew Young.

Wilmington put up three-sports in both the 2nd and 3rd and flew past Aberdeen, 7-3 in the opener. Rodney Theophile picked up his first High-A win with five innings of two-run on four hits (one HR) and four walks while striking out… wait for it… four. Omar Meregildo was a triple shy of the cycle as he hit his 17th double and 12th HR to drive in three. Drew Mendoza also went deep with HR #4 while Yasel Antuna added three singles to pace the Blue Rocks offense.

The F-Nats were gifted six walks and four errors but only managed to score one unearned run as they doubled up the F-Marlins, 4-2. Miguel Atencio started and spun five scoreless innings, with four hits and no walks while fanning six. SSDL for Karlo Seijas who got the dreaded blown-save-win for being the pitcher of record after blowing a 2-0 lead with two runs on hits and a walk over two innings. Roismar Quintana singled twice and doubled once to lead the seven-hit offense, which went 0-for-14 with RISP and left on 11 baserunners.

D-Colorado shut out the D-Nats, 1-0, on three hits. Raynel Moron started and pitched five scoreless innings, with two hits and a walk allowed while striking out three. The loss went to Angel Roman, who gave up the sole run of the game on two hits over two innings. Winder Diaz singled twice while Crithian Vaquero singled once to account for the three hits.

    Does anyone know what injury Yankoski has?

    Both recent promoted pitchers, Rodney Theophile and Jose Ferrer, are adjusting well to High A.

    Omar Mereglido is yet another hitter the Nats refuse to promote, just ridiculous.

    1. With a lifetime minor league BA of .232 in 1551 at bats (mostly low minors) as a 3B and DH, the 24 year old Omar (soon to be 25) is not a prospect. However promoting him would not really take away at bats for another player.

      1. Good for him! Nats passed on several other players when they drafted him with the 58th pick in 2016. Noteworthy are Bo Bichette and Pete Alonso!.

        1. Yeah, but you can play that game with pretty much any draft choice. There are almost always players taken later that outperform any one draft pick. The Nats got value for Neuse by including him in the trade for Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson back in the day (although Jesus Luzardo and Blake Treinen were clearly the value leaders in that trade)

  7. Interesting pattern for Theophile since the promotion. His first start, he got knocked around early but recovered. Second start, cruised for four innings then got beat up in the fifth. Third start last night, wobbly to begin the game before recovering to finish strong again.

    I’m no expert, but it seems to me like his biggest challenge at High-A is the batters are more disciplined and aren’t taking as many bad swings at unhittable pitches. He has the stuff to be aggressive in the zone, so hopefully that’s what his coaches are telling him to do now. If he can consistently get ahead of batters, his strikeout rate is going to soar and his walk rate is going to plummet, just like at Low-A, but that’s a big “if” for our breakout prospect. He won’t lose many battles he’s starting off 1-2 or 0-2; with his release point and sharp secondaries that he disguises well, he can force batters to commit early (read: guess) when they’re in a two-strike count. But he needs to throw more first-pitch strikes. Getting ahead in the count is far more important at higher levels than it is at Low-A.
