The Senators ‘pen faltered late, giving up a two-out RBI double in the 8th to tie and a two-out HR in the 9th to lose to the Seawolves, 5-4. Ronald Herrera notched his fifth quality start but came away with his fourth no-decision, allowing three runs over six innings on three hits, two walks, and a Victor Robles. He struck out five. The loss went to Richard Guasch on the aforementioned solo HR. Dondrei Hubbard, Justin Connell, and Jackson Cluff each went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Harrisburg did not hit a home run for the 17th time this season, dropping their record to 2-15 in those games.

The win went to MiLB rehab Luis Avilán for two goose eggs and two baserunners while fanning three. The FredNats took advantage of 11 walks and an error to score 13 times on just seven hits in a 13-9 win over the Woodpeckers. Mason Denaburg struck out a career-high six and walked three over three scoreless innings. He threw 49 pitches, 26 for strikes. Andrew Alvarez followed Denaburg and got the “W,” though he let in three on five hits and two walks over four innings. White also singled to get off the Interstate for the first time since May 24. Brady House singled twice and walked once but committed his 11th error in 28G at SS.
Roster moves: RHP Todd Peterson assigned from Wilmington for MiLB rehab.
It’s significant news for Denaburg to have a strong outing. It’s going to be difficult for the franchise to recover unless/until they can get something out of their 1st-round picks for more than half a decade.
I’ve been sleeping on House and his 11 errors. Of course I’ve also always thought he was destined for 3B. It seems likely that they’ll keep House at SS for now, though, with Infante hitting well at 3B.
One wonders when the Brady / Sammy flip will occur unless A Cruz motors up the ladder fast
Well Nats are using every arm signed over the winter and since camp broke .
Org must be hoping the arms acquired at the Deadline dump develop into a useable bullpen arm or dealable one .
Some of these kids truly have to mentally adjust to various scenarios . Starting , then stretching out then maybe being the filler innings guy like Alvarez was trying to be for FRED…then you are factoring in diet , moon effects , weather effects ..
Considering the two prior years
Having Cavilli Henry Afon Lee in the upper levels and Theophile earning a future bump
Coupled with several bonus babies scuffling
Could be much worse
Several arms should materialize out of picks 5zxx
5 35 65 etc in July
No it is 5, 45, 84, 111 due to competitive balance/free agent compensation. After 111 I think you can just add 30’s.
Ok natty Bob
Stand corrected in the ping pong ball game
Rain in NYC for 3 and a half hours today
No wonder Red Wings watered out
Congrats to Henry and Irwin on their bump ups
Good to see Luis Garcia finally liberated from time-manipulation hell. He slashed .314/.368/.531 in 42 games at Rochester with 6 doubles, 4 triples, and 8 homers. He had equally solid stats at AAA in 2021. Is he finally ready to show that quality at the MLB level? He struggled in the majors last year, with an OBP of only .275.
I read somewhere that Garcia is officially under team control for another year by keeping him at AAA this long.
Denaburg got better as his outing went on, over half his pitches were in the first inning. stay healthy my boy!
Nice to hear that live on hand Mason reports
Would be a treat if he could be one of the few guys to get past the “ Little League outing “ ( 3-4 IP) ( right , Todd?)
5 would be awesome .
The reason I mentioned the Ex- pos snake bit by drafting Stanford arms is that it is remindful of the Nats motoring @ 20 mph in player development with stalled number ones .
Yes the Expos had some bonus babies which did not progress : Reid Cornelius , Justin Wayne , Stan Spencer and Josh Karp big dude out of UCLA
Any whispers out of the complex about the UCLA reliever and Todd Peterson ?
Peterson pitched last night for FredNats and got knocked around a bit
Good names to mention from an Old time Expos fan who remembers prospects Mike Wegener, Balor Moore, Joe Gilbert, Dennis Blair and others! Prospects do not always make MLB regulars.
Balor Moore that vaunted
Lefty
Trader Jack had some 4 Aers @ Denver before Felipe Alou took his Moses effect to the minors .
Don don’t forget Bernie Allen who I met in person a few months ago
He played for Gene Mauch and Ted9
I was at the FredNats game in Fayetteville, Denaburg definitely looked better as the game went on, had a couple of walks/wild pitches first 2 innings but was strong in the 3rd. Hit 95-96 a couple of times but consistently 92-93. House’s error was an off-balance throw to first that he rushed without having his feet set.
I’ve said here and I’ll say it again — the “Jeter jump throw” should have never been celebrated or lionized the way it was. This is why. Unfortunately, fundamental defense is not as flashy so it doesn’t make SportsCenter.
Luke couldn’t we say Jeter copied the jump throw from Ozzie Smith ?
Thanks for the good firsthand report.
Good to see T.J. White get off the schneid. His OPS in April was .923 and .228 in May. In a further indictment of the overstuffed roster he has only appeared in 24 of the FredNats 46 games.
Very happy to see Denaburg’s emergence.
Omar Meregildo has been in the Nats system for 8 years and is now 24. His OPS of .893 and his age says its time to see what he can do in AA. Is the f.o. paying attention?
Omar the first major bump
Up or could it be a simultaneous Baker up replaced by v Pena ?
I was going to say that the same could be said of Tim Cate and Jake Irvin, but it appears Irvin got promoted today, presumably to replace Evan Lee.
White must be allergic to May or something, because he started June just like he started April: red hot. Hope this is a sign of things re-clicking and not a one-off
I saw that Cole Henry to Rochester and Jake Irvin to Harrisburg.
If their smart Theophile will take Irvin’s place in Wilmington.
2 hits in 5 frames with 7 Ks
That should be it for Theo @ Fred
Is Marlon Perez a loogie or possible 3-4 IP starter for FRED despite his LR placement on BB, TB?
