Rochester Red Wings (9-9, T5th, 2GB, International League East)
After a 2-4 series against the IronPigs, the Red Wings are at .500 but still only two games off the pace set by Buffalo and Norfolk. This week, I-90 rival Syracuse comes to town for six, including an afternoon start on Thursday.
Roster moves: UT Dee Strange-Gordon assigned from Washington for MLB rehab.

Harrisburg Senators (10-5, 1st, 1½GA, Eastern League Southwest Division)
After struggling to score against Portland, Harrisburg took five of six from Reading by a combined count of 50-25 to soar into first place and the best record in the Eastern League. This week, it’s six against Hartford at City Isle.

Wilmington Blue Rocks (8-7, T2nd, 2GB, South Atlantic League North Division)
The Blue Rocks split against the Crawdads to hold serve at second place in the Sally Lg. North. This week, they head north to Hudson Valley for six against the Renegades.

Fredericksburg Nationals (11-4, 1st, 3GA, Carolina League North Division)
Fredericksburg’s five-game win streak combined with Salem’s four-game skid has put the FredNats in an unfamiliar position: 1st place in the C.L. North, up by three games, and leading the Carolina League with a Nintendo-like 8.53 runs per game. Charleston and its league-best pitching staff (3.6 R/G vs. 5.4 Lg. Avg.) come to town this week for six to see if they can tame them.

  2. Mitchell Parker tries to continue his Sally dominance tonight. So far, he has a 1.23 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, .109 BA against, 12.3 K/9. In 14.2 innings, he has only surrendered five hits and two runs. With a couple of more starts in similar manner, he should be ticketed for AA. There’s certainly not many folks standing in his way there.

    At some point the AA rotation could get interesting, though. Henry is there and figures to stay most of the season. Cavalli is proving why AAA is no place to be learning the craft. Both he and Adon would benefit from being in Harrisburg. One would think that Tim Cate will be sent back to try AA again at some point, although it will be interesting to see if he’s still thought of as a starter.

    Meanwhile, Harrisburg currently has a couple of guys starting in Evan Lee and Fuentes who seem to profile better as relievers (which both predominantly were earlier in their careers). One would think that we’ll probably see 20 relievers or so this year with the big club, so the need is great.

    Only Luke would know this, but how many games did the FredNats play last year before they won 11 games. What a difference a year makes!

    1. Better question: how many games did it take the FredNats to play before they won a single game?

      Wasn’t it 17?

      1. Close. They lost their first 15 games out of the gate, then didn’t win their 11th until the 36th game.

  4. Any news on Alfonso Hernandez? He’s been MIA this season. MILB has him listed as “Active” but he’s yet to appear anywhere. I saw nothing suggesting he’s injured, and he was pitching (well) right up until the end of 2021.

    I was really looking forward to seeing what he could do in Harrisburg. He’s only 22 and consistently put up really good numbers despite being young for his age at each level. And after the Nats going against every urge in their body, refused to run him out as a starter from 2018-2019, finally relented in 2021, and it paid off 3.52 ERA in 15 starts).
