Rochester Red Wings (7-5, 3rd, 2GB, International League East)
Rochester has cooled some since opening the season by winning four of five but remains in the upper half of the I.L. East. Tonight, Cade Cavalli makes his third start of the season, attempting to go five innings for the first time in 2022 and perhaps even register his first quality start since before Labor Day 2021.
Harrisburg Senators (5-4, T2nd, 1GB, Eastern League Southwest Division)
As noted in the comments, it remains to be seen whether the Senators were stymied by good pitching or if this year’s edition will be like last year’s edition, which finished dead last in offense. This week, Harrisburg visits intra-state rival Reading for six.
Wilmington Blue Rocks (5-4, 2nd, 1GB, South Atlantic League North Division)
Wilmington returns home after splitting its series with Aberdeen to host Hickory through Sunday. Pitching has been the hallmark of this team thus far with four of the five starters sporting an ERA of 3.00 or lower (albeit in limited innings) and five relievers averaging more than 10K/9IP.
Fredericksburg Nationals (6-3, 2nd, 1GB, Carolina League North Division)
The FredNats hit the road for North Carolina for six against Cannon Ballers. All eyes are on Brady House, but Leandro Emiliani was the Carolina League Player of the Week after racking up three doubles, a triple, and a two-run homer while going 6-for-12 last week.
Good point about Emiliani being player of the week.
There was a lot of press by the prospects experts 3+ years about the international big 3: Emiliani, Viandel Pena, and De La Rosa.
Last year was bad for all three, through no fault of their own. The pandemic seemed to ruined their development.
Things are much brighter this year, here are their numbers:
Emiliani — 1.218 OPS
De La Rosa — .849 OPS
Pena– .741 OPS.
Stay tuned!
Bryan Caceres was signed out of Panama in 2017. It took him four years to get off the island but has had a good year so far and he is still young.
With a twin bill today the Nats can bring up a 29th player. Cavalli is scheduled to start tonight; might he get the call? Or, could Rizzo bring Clippard up?
Cavalli has a deserved 9 ERA, and in Clippard’s last game he faced 5 batters and retired none of them.
Hard to believe that they would make a 40-man move like that this early in the season. Call-up probably will be Clay or Perez.
Looking at the FBurg stats. The 2021 3d round pick, Brandon Boissiere, has a very low average at .167, but an OBP of .464. He has nine walks. Arias and Diaz both have eight walks and low averages. These numbers lead me to believe that the FredNats have been facing some wildly inconsistent pitching (not surprising at that level), and these guys have been laying off on a lot of it.
Meanwhile, White has chased the bad stuff to the tune of 14 K’s, House and de la Rosa have 12, and Infante has 10. Somewhat miraculously, House has connected for 16 hits against that wild pitching. The conclusion there would be that when he actually gets a pitch to hit, he doesn’t miss it. No one else on the team is within six hits of him. He’s also been “lucky” when he’s made contact, with a crazy .577 BABIP.
Yeah, I am a little more concerned with House than most. 12 Ks in 43 PA at low A scares me. However, he did not have a full Spring and it is a small sample. Half of the Ks came in 2 games. I hope he can adjust.
BA realesed their IFA review. Nothing new with Vaquero.
I had been waiting for a report on Jorgelys Mota. He is a 6’3″ that is 9 months younger than Vaquero. It sounds like he has a ton of potential. Plus tools and may be able to stick at SS. The approach at the plate and just actual on field production will tell the tale, but he will be intersting to follow.
Mota ?? Related to Manny ?
