Cavalli Among the Latest Spring Training Cuts
Cade Cavalli was the top prospect officially sent to the minor-league camp, but the move was perhaps overshadowed by the highly questionable decision to outright a 27-y.o. defensive stalwart (Andrew Stevenson) ahead of a trio of 34-y.o. OF’s (Dee Strange-Gordon, Yadiel Hernandez, Gerardo Parra).
Also re-assigned to minor league camp were relievers Carl Edwards Jr. and Jace Fry, plus catcher Chris Hermann. All four are expected to begin the season with Rochester.
Cavalli was hit hard this spring, giving up 14 runs across three appearances and 8#8531; innings – including 11 runs this past Wednesday in two and a 1/3rd innings. He’ll return to AAA and look to improve on the 7.04/4.54/1.86 line in his last six starts.
Details on the final Red Wings roster were not divulged today. Rochester begins the 2022 season with a six-game series (yep, still the norm) at Toledo.
Todd your predictions have been spot on especially those DFAs.
Interesting to see how many of the kids brought over to A camp games actually were because they’ve opened up eyes this March especially Junior Martina,
Brandon Boissierre ( misspelled @ 530 am ?) and the B boys Baker and Barley . Opened up eyes means bump them up a level .
Highly questionable is right. More like stupid.
Maybe they can just make Parra a coach, his playing days in the bigs are over.
Mimics the stupidity on Robles. He has 2 hits and 1 walk in 18 AB’s after not hitting at all last year and he is scheduled to start Opening Day.
Cavalli needs some real seasoning in Rochester. Every time he got hit hard this spring Davey kept saying how good he was.
Makes you wonder if we have the right people making decisions to lead this rebuild…
