Cavalli Hit Hard in 5-4 Nats Loss
The Cards got to Cade Cavalli for three runs in the 2nd and two off Mason Thompson in the 5th in another Nats loss, 5-4.
Washington’s #1/#2 prospect set the side down in order in the 1st on a pair of K’s and flyball to right, but ran into trouble in the 2nd.
St. Louis opened the second frame with four consecutive hits. Nolan Arenado led off with a double, followed by singles by Corey Dickerson and Paul DeJong, the latter of which plated Arenado. Harrison Bader then sent in Dickerson and DeJong with a two-run double for the early 3-0 lead for St. Louis.
Cavalli took care of Bader with slick pickoff then rolled two groundouts to get out of the inning. He then set the side down in order in the 3rd, getting his third whiff. Cavalli finished with three earned runs allowed on three hits over three innings with no walks.
In the post-start interview, Cavalli went full LaLoosh, citing he “felt good” and “filled up the zone” (see above) while glossing over the rough patch, just like the MLB.com story.
Cavalli is expected to make at least one MLB ST start in five days.
No other watchlist players appeared, as the Nats used NRI’s and OG’s off the bench.
This afternoon, the Nats travel to Port St. Lucie for the first time to visit the Mets. RHP Erick Fedde is slated to start for Washington, with LHP David Peterson as his counterpart for New York. The game can be heard locally on 106.7FM.
Fedde coming along ??

Maybe some one will write a ditty..
I attended two games on adjoining fields yesterday. One was supposed to be AA and the other AAA against the Astros. Since the Nats were on the road, many of guys playing in these games were major leagueres: Soto, Bell, Espino, Sanchez, Thomas, and Franco. I didn’t see it, but I overheard a scout say that Brady House hit a monster home run on the other field. There are still a lot of roster moves/cuts to be made.
LM : give us an eyes in camp take on Gil Lara and further down our fireman Dylan Moore
Assuming, of course, Dave Martinez is gone and replaced by a manager who understands the difference between a closer and a fireman.
Very good point
Appearance of the Sandman ?
Connie Mack managed until age of a Philly eagle DL jersey number
Could Jack McKeon still sit in the dugout ??
For those who missed it, Carl pointed out yesterday that Alex Dunlap retired this spring. A 29th round pick in 2017 he hit .571 OPS last year in the upper minors.
His future looks bright with that Stanford degree in hand and he can at least regale his grandchildren about his 4 years as a professional baseball player.
Very true
Stanford alums who have slummed in the expo/ Nats farm chains seem to end up like this .. moving along in another career
Bring on Nescera !!
I know we’re not still carrying him as a “prospect,” but it sounds like Luis Garcia will be sent down to Rochester to start the season:

Garcia has two options remaining. He will only turn 22 in May.
